Charlie LeVern Moore, Jr., 88, of Abbeville, beloved husband of Wilma Timms Wiley Moore, died Saturday, October 4, 2025 at the Abbeville Area Medical Center. Born in Sumter, SC, he was the son of the late Charlie L. Moore, Sr. and Vertie Mae Atkinson Moore.
Mr. Moore was a graduate of Sumter High School and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Clemson University in 1959. He honorably served in the U.S. Army before pursuing further education, achieving a Master’s Degree in Physics from Pittsburgh University and a Master’s of Library Science from the University of South Carolina. With a passion for education, Mr. Moore taught Physics at various Technical Colleges across South Carolina and served as the Assistant Librarian at Erskine College before his retirement.
A proud member of the American Legion Post 20, the Piedmont Area Mensa Group, and a Life Member of the Sierra Club, Mr. Moore actively engaged in his community. He and his wife were devoted members of the Greenwood Lutheran Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Myra Elaine Moore Wilt.
Mr. Moore is survived by his wife Wilma of 34 years of the home; a brother, Eugene Moore (Theresa) of Raleigh, NC.; a sister, Gail Moore Hutto of Clemson, SC; four nieces and a nephew; extended family, Randy Wiley (Debbie) of Greenwood, SC, Kevin Wiley of Utah, Holly Brown (Josh), Ryan Wiley (Lauren), Sully, Finch, and Harper Grace.
Graveside services will be 1:00PM Tuesday, October 7, 2025, in Long Cane Cemetery, 329 Hwy 20 Abbeville, SC 29620 with Mr. Ronnie Alexander officiating.
The family is at the home in Abbeville.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Moore, may be sent to the Greenwood Lutheran Church, PO Box 49369, Greenwood, SC 29649.
