Charlie So, 76, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2023. The son of the late Peter So Sie Kay and Ellen Tjong Tjoei Ying, Charlie was born September 24, 1946, in Medan, Sumatra, Indonesia. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Tennessee Technological University and was a member of Alpha Phi Omega while he attended the university. In 2006, Charlie was awarded Honorary Recognition for his 35 years of meritorious service as a Professional Civil Engineer with the Commonwealth of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed running, playing guitar, studying American History, and was an American Red Cross volunteer. Charlie also enjoyed watching college sports but enjoyed college basketball most.
Charlie is survived by his sisters, Lily (Ken) Guyer, Weilie (Ken) Tjoa, Julie (Eddie) Fu, and Mary So; nieces, Monica (Hubert) Ho, Melicia (Gilbert) Chin, Isabella (Daniel) Huang; Betty, Watti, Santi, Yanti, Wetti, and Erin; his nephew Steven (Tiffany) Fu; great nieces, Lindsey Ho, Rachel Chin, and Eliza Huang; and great nephews, Travis Ho, Michael Chin, Oliver Huang, and Spencer Huang.
In addition to his parents, Peter So Sie Kay and Ellen Tjong Tjoei Ying, Charlie was preceded in death by a sister, Jenny So.
Private services will be planned at a later date.
