Obituary of Keung So

At age 93, Keung So left this world peacefully on June 19, 2024.

He was born in 1930 in Hong Kong. His early life was marked by war, political unrest, and family needs caused by economic depression in Hong Kong. He grew up in a big family and was in charge of the family business since his early thirties. He was very dedicated to the growth of both the family and the business.

He married Yin Ying and together maintained a supportive and loving relationship for more than 60 years until his death. They had five children and worked tirelessly to support their higher education in the US where the entire family ultimately immigrated. To his children, he often expressed that "no one can take away your education. So study hard." He also encouraged his younger siblings to pursue graduate degrees in the US. He himself was an eager learner. He engaged in lifelong informal learning by observing his peers and following his elders, and by tapping into digital devices.

After retirement, he became a health enthusiast and engaged in many activities and joined several elderly centers. His pursuit of health was not only physical but also spiritual. Keung and Yin Ying were baptized into the Catholic Church. He had often expressed his gratefulness toward God for his family, a successful business, and a long healthy life. He maintained that gratitude throughout his terminal illness. In fact, his spirituality gave him strength to face any problem: he was so strong - his bilingual name "So (Strong)".

He is survived by his wife Yin Ying, his siblings Woon Ching, Woon Sim, Cheung Hay (Kwan Yin), Woon Man, Kwok Fai (Choi Har), Kwok Wai (Sonja), and Woon Yee (Aaron); children Chiu Kwan (Suphat), Daphne (Gene), Kelvin (Lay Pin), Annie, and Dominicus (Thomas); his six grandchildren Justin, Caitin, Michelle, Janice, Ian, and Briana; and his brother in law, Yin Ying K. Keung was preceded in death by his father Lam, mother Ahma K. Sin, mother Ahjei M. Foo, siblings Sau Ching, Wai Ching, Woon Kam, Kwok Kwong, and Kwok Kay.

He said we should have a joyful funeral for him. A memorial service will take place to celebrate his life on July 16, 2024 at 11am, preceded by a Visitation and Slide Show at 10am at the Pickering & Son Upton Funeral Home, 45 Main Street, Upton, Massachusetts 01568.

In honor of his final wishes, Keung's cremains will be interred at a nearby cemetery where he enjoyed the tranquility and view: Lakeview Cemetery in Upton, 66-67 North Main St, Upton, Massachusetts 01568
