Obituary for Charlotte Inetta Helenberg (Darbyshire)
Charlotte Inetta Helenberg (Darbyshire), 81, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025, at Baylor Scott & White in Temple, Texas. Born on August 8, 1944, in Hardy, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Harold and Inis Darbyshire.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 31 years, Thomas F. Helenberg; her parents, Harold and Inis Darbyshire; and her brothers, Donnie and John Darbyshire. She is survived by her son, John M. Helenberg; her grandson, Caden Thomas Helenberg; her siblings, Kathy Bryant and her husband "Doc," and James Darbyshire and his wife Mona; her lifelong friend, Mary Frame; and many nieces, nephews, and loved ones who will forever hold her memory close.
Charlotte grew up in Hardy, Kentucky, and proudly graduated from Belfry High School. In 1963, she enlisted in the United States Air Force, beginning a life marked by service and dedication. After receiving a medical discharge, she moved to Austin, Texas, where she began a career with Texas Instruments. During this time, she met and married Thomas Helenberg, eventually settling in his hometown of La Porte, Texas. There, she devoted herself to raising their son, supporting their community, and managing Gulf Central Aviation, the family's aviation business. She also volunteered countless hours with the La Porte ISD booster club and the high school ROTC program-two efforts she embraced with her characteristic passion and generosity.
Above all, Charlotte valued family, friendship, and helping others find their joy. She loved playing cards, cheering on young people, and supporting the military and law enforcement communities. Her warmth, strength, and unwavering support touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale, Texas, followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025. Burial will take place the following week at Forest Park Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
