Charlotte Larrick, 81, of Columbia, went to her heavenly home on November 9, 2025.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 23 at 2:00 pm at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Columbia.
Charlotte was born November 23, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Frank and Amelia (Stahlhuth) Demme. She married Dean Larrick on April 6, 1963, in Florissant, Missouri.
Charlotte grew up in University City and Overland areas of St. Louis. She attended Sutter Avenue Presbyterian Church in University City. A 1961 graduate of Pattonville High School, Charlotte played and lettered in volleyball and basketball, as well as worked on the yearbook staff and wrote for the literary journal. She was voted "girl class clown" by the senior class as well as nominated for homecoming queen. She was known for getting along with everyone.
After she graduated from high school, instead of going to MU on a Regent's scholarship, she began work at the US Army Transportation Material Command. It is there that she met Dean in 1961. They married in 1963. Together, they lived in Wichita, KS, St. Louis, MO, Arlington, VA, and Rocheport, MO, where they relocated to in 1989. Returning to Missouri allowed Charlotte to look after her parents in St. Louis and, later, her father in Columbia. In 2007, they "moved to town" (Columbia).
Charlotte and her family learned she had Type 1 Diabetes 1957. She learned to give herself shots of insulin, which she did everyday for the rest of her life. She met this disease with diligence and grace, and defied the doctor's predictions about life expectancy (by a lot). It shaped much of her family's experience as everyone gathered for three healthy meals each day. And, although she could not eat sweets, she made wonderful desserts and Christmas cookies.
Charlotte loved family and was grateful to be able to have two children, Rick and Lee Anne. She made sure her kids and parents saw each other multiple times a year, and enjoyed trips home to see extended family on the holidays. She warmly welcomed her daughters-in-law, Cynthia and Stacy, as family. She loved seeing her grandchildren, Campo and Kiko, as much as possible, and enjoyed learning of their news and travels. She enjoyed hosting holidays, often inviting friends to celebrate with family.
After staying at home with her kids when they were young, Charlotte worked at Jamestown Elementary School in Arlington, VA, as a library aide. She loved interacting with the teachers and children.
Charlotte and Dean enjoyed travelling. Their journeys took them to France, Germany, Austria, Israel, Hawaii, Dinosaur National Park, and the Badlands, among other places. Both had a fondness for North Carolina's Outer Banks and enjoyed many visits there throughout the years. Their trips were memorialized in a collection of Christmas ornaments that led to a wonderful tour of the family tree each year.
Charlotte was a devoted member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Columbia, MO, until her death. She served on Session, Congregational Care, Outreach, and Nominating Committees. She especially enjoyed attending Afternoon Circle. She volunteered at the Wardrobe, Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, Meals on Wheels, NARFE, and many other organizations. She believed in volunteering and serving others. She lived Jesus's words to love God and to love her neighbor.
Charlotte was warm, outgoing, and always ready to care for others. Her kindness built community wherever she went-at church, in her neighborhood, and around her kitchen table. Family conversations, often lingering long after dinner, were among her happiest times.
Charlotte is survived by her children, Rick Larrick (Cynthia) and Lee Larrick (Stacy), two grandchildren, Campo and Kiko, nephew Dean Stiegemeier (Peg), niece Alexa Varner, cousins Gary Delvecchio, Patricia Parker, and Curt Parker, and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by her brother, Richard F. Demme, cousins Linda Steele and Sally Reinhardt, and by many beloved rescue dogs.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Unchained Melodies, 4107 White Tiger Lane, Columbia, MO, 65202, or Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes (formerly Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes (Formerly JDRF)), 200 Vesey Street, 28th Floor, New York, NY 10281.
