Charlotte Sofia Obituary
Sofia, Charlotte (Barton) of Merrimac, formerly of Melrose and Salisbury. passed away on December 25, 2025, at the age of 84. Born in Stoneham to the late Barker “Lefty” Barton and June (Cohen). Beloved wife of 56 years to the late Ernest “Ernie” Sofia Jr. Charlotte was a woman of remarkable elegance, integrity, and family dedication.
Charlotte had strong work ethic and diverse background. She worked at Tello’s clothing in Medford, Princess House Crystal, Sentry Lincoln Mercury in Medford, and most recently, office manager with her son Mark at his chiropractic office in Lawrence. Her creativity and passions were expressed through her innate sense of fashion and elegance. She always presented herself well-dressed and poised. “Always a lady” a frequent statement shared. She became known for her beauty, sense of style and the tokens of affection her husband adorned her with. Christmas was her favorite, and she graced her home with many Christmas trees and extensive gifts for everyone. She cherished every moment spent with her family. From her Las Vegas vacations with Ernie to the Disney vacations with her children and grandchildren, Charlotte truly relished the time spent with family.
She was the mother of Lisa Pelonzi and her husband Michael of Haverhill, Susan Sofia-McIntire and her husband Michael of Saratoga Springs, NY, and Dr. Mark Sofia and his wife Dr. Diane of Merrimac. Adored grandmother of Jonathan, Benjamin, Erica, Reid, Anthony, and Sorell. Dear sister to her late twin brother Peter Barton Sr. Caring aunt of Peter Jr, William and Todd Barton. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons Funeral Home, 128 Revere St, Revere on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. A Prayer Service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00am in the funeral home (guests can arrive 10:15am). Interment Woodlawn Cemetery.
