Charlsie Blocker Obituary

Charlsie Jerrelline Blocker (Sparks) age 80, a lifelong resident of Mineral Wells, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

Charlsie was born in Mineral Wells, Texas, on August 29, 1945, the only daughter of Jerrell Weston Sparks and Deronda Chenault Sparks (Dee). She spent her life serving her community, building lasting friendships, and sharing kindness wherever she went.

Charlsie attended beauty school not long after receiving her GED. Charlsie always accredited her career to her stepmother Lucille, stating on multiple occasions that if not for the push from Lucille to further her education, she didn't know which direction her life would have went.

Charlsie was a longtime hairdresser and proud business owner in Mineral Wells. She began her career at a young age, following her passion for styling hair and connecting with people, not only through her salon, but also through her bargain store which always accompanied her salon. During her career, she had the opportunity to work in the historic Baker Hotel salon, an experience she cherished. Later in life, after having children, Charlsies daughter Deedee followed in her footsteps and the 2 had the pleasure of working together for many years. Charlsie loved being around others, sharing stories, laughter, and encouragement while making everyone feel welcome and valued.

Charlsie was one of the hardest working people you would ever have the pleasure of meeting. Being a single mother of 3 children, Charlsie knew she had to provide for her children. Noone was going to do it for her. When Charlsie wasn't cutting and styling hair, she was performing odd and end jobs, as well as bartending at places such as the American Legion in Mineral wells. Before her passing, Charlsie often gave the speech that she owed her daughter Stacey an un-payable debt, because without Stacey, who took on the role of cooking and cleaning in the home, she's not sure they would have survived.

When she wasn't working, Charlsie enjoyed dancing, often visiting places such as the "Trio" in Mingus, and the Senior Center in Springtown. Charlsie enjoyed going to bingo, often taking her daughter DeeDee to play with her.

Out of all the hobbies Charlsie enjoyed, one of her favorite hobbies was beating the crowd to a good garage sale, often as early as 530/6 AM toting her flashlight in hand. This was when "the good stuff" was available

Her caring and selfless nature led her to create a charity for local senior centers called The Senior Angel Sleigh. Recognizing a need in the community, she organized donations of hygiene items and warm clothing for seniors. Charlsie, along with the help of various people through the years, personally packaged the donations at her beauty salon and delivered them to local nursing homes, bringing comfort and joy to many.

Charlsie will be remembered for her warm heart, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to family, friends, and community.

She is survived by her daughter, Deedee Lanier; grandchildren, Johnny (Kylie) Clayton Jr., Courtney (Brandi) Fountain, and KayLeigh (Amy) Cummings; and great-grandchildren, Brandy Zachmeyer, Oliver Clayton, Henry Clayton, Greyson Clayton, Thomas Clayton, and Laney Cummings, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wayne Blocker; parents, Jerrell Weston and Deronda Chenault Sparks; grandparents, Noah and Ethel Chenault, Joe and Delana Sparks; her brother, Jerry Sparks; nephews Joe and Michael Sparks who she truly adored, her son, Steven Fountain; and her daughter Stacey Fountain Beers.

The family will hold a visitation on Thursday evening 02/26 from 6 to 8 PM at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2PM on Friday 02/27 at the Mineral Wells Church of God.
