Our dearly beloved daughter, sister, niece, aunt, cousin, and friend, Chaundra Bene Bradby, affectionately called "Chaun" passed away on June 18, 2024, after a 15 year struggle with MS – Multiple Sclerosis. Chaun's life would seem too short to many, but those of us who were blessed to be touched by her understand that her existence and the imprint she left on our hearts exceed the quantity of time that she stayed here.
Chaun was born on May 7, 1979, to Elaine J. Brady and the late Real E. Bradby in Richmond, VA. In her childhood, Chaun was an adorable, curly-haired funny, yet reserved little girl, who was baptized at an early age at New Vine Baptist Church, in Charles City, VA where she attended, until her health prevented her from doing so. Chaundra graduated from Henrico County Public Schools before studying International Business at the University of Rhode Island, after which she returned to Richmond to join the workforce.
Chaun was a devoted mother to Josh, her pride and joy. She always said his birth changed her life for the better, and he felt that in the love and support she provided. She was especially proud, when only 10 days before passing, she was able to attend Josh's high school graduation, knowing his future is secure as he will be entering the military this fall.
Chaundra was preceded in death by her grandparents, Rachel and Herman Johnson, Olivia and Real Bradby Sr., and Uncle Ralph Bradby. She is survived by her one and only devoted son, Joshua H. Smith; siblings, Valerie Stewart (Clark), Robert Bradby, Jr., and Eric Bradby, along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends and cousins - one devoted Sharita Dickerson.
Chaun had a big heart and the most beautiful smile, especially when online shopping at Amazon and watching one of her many subscription channels on TV. She was strong willed, and sometimes stubborn, but those traits defined Chaun. They were part of who she was, and her strength undoubtedly helped her deal with life's challenges.
Thank you to: Chelsea Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center administration and staff for providing impeccable care during the last 1 and ½ years. An extra special thank you to Chaun's late father Real Bradby, and her sister Valerie Stewart for taking on the responsibility of raising Josh, when Chaundra's failing health no longer allowed her to take on that responsibility.
A celebration of life will be held, 11AM, Friday, June 28, 2024, at Vincent Funeral Home, Providence Forge, VA.
