Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vincent Funeral Home - Providence Forge on Aug. 6, 2024.
Emmitt "Awahnee" Bradby, 93, of Charles City, went to be with the Lord on August 4, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents Opechancanough and Wanita Bradby, wife of 65 years Olive Nokomis Bradby, and daughters Lisa Nanette and Melanie Hope Bradby.
Emmitt leaves to cherish his memory his children, Marlon (Celie), Sylvia Wynn (Woody), Connie Lankford (Willie), Sonya Stewart (Patrick); grandchildren, Marla, Lauren, Joy, Tony (Lacey), Hilary (Austin), Kiri, Cameron, and Sheldon; 5 great grandchildren, Brayden, Waylon, Mahzi, Myomi, and Teagan. He also leaves behind two foster daughters, Valerie Jefferson and Tonya Woodard (Kelly); a bonus daughter, Wilma Loving, who also helped care for her uncle Em; two special nieces, Annette Mason and Vicki Holmes (Howard) and their children Jarrett, Dakota, and Hailey; three special nephews, Arnold Adkins, George "Snowbird" Adkins, and Brad Bradby; sisters, Kathleen Canaday, Arnette Adkins, June Loving; brother, Milford; in-laws, Thelma, Lucille and Paulette Bradby, and Irese Whitehead.
Emmitt came to know the Lord at an early age. He was a member of Samaria Baptist Church where he served at VBS for many years, a Sunday School teacher, a deacon and he assisted Rev. Evans for many, many years with Baptisms. He was proud to assist in baptizing all of his children and grandchildren. He was also a member of the Chickahominy Indian Tribe. Emmitt worked for Dixie Dinettes and The Richmond Bakery. He was a mechanic for Charles City County schools and retired after 25 years of service. He loved singing and listening to Gospel Bluegrass. He enjoyed family and friends playing and picking music where he would sing along. He was a Godly man who was loved by everyone that came into his life and will be missed by all. We would like to thank Cassandra Adkins Bailey for the special love and care that she gave to daddy. We want to thank At Home Hospice for their compassionate care given to our loved one. A special thank you to nurses Audrey, Lisa, and Laurie. A very special thank you to Michelle New for the excellent care that she gave daddy and her love.
A funeral service will be held 2PM Friday, August 9, 2024, at Samaria Baptist Church, 8130 Lott Cary Rd, Providence Forge, VA 23140. A viewing will be from 6PM - 8PM, Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Vincent Funeral Home, Providence Forge, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Samaria Baptist Church and the Chickahominy Indian Tribe. We would like to thank everyone for the calls, text, visits, food and all of the kindness that has been shown to our family during this time.
