Cherokee Coles Obituary

Cherokee Charise Coles,48, affectionately known as "Chick" passed away on Saturday, November 8th, 2025. She was born on September 19, 1977, in Morgantown, WV to Debra Coles and the late John Wilson.

Cherokee was a woman, no matter whose presence she was in, made an everlasting mark. Cherokee was a kindhearted, spirited person who loved hard and was loved hard in return. Though she gained her wings, the memories she made with all lingers on. She was a mom at heart (whether you were her child by blood or not), a daughter and sister like no other, a partner that had your back no matter what, and a friend for life. If you needed someone to talk to-YOU had it; someone to laugh or cry with-YOU had it; or someone to love you unconditionally-YOU had it too in her!!!

Cherokee genuinely loved spending time with her children, making memories with her family. She was truly a basketball mom to her son, Marquez, and her two youngest daughters. She was their greatest supporter and cheerleader. She would not hesitate to take them to practice, to attend their school games, as well as traveling up and down the highways to their traveling team games. Her presence was felt at the games and missed when she was unable to attend due to her illness. She was also known in the community for her cooking, working side by side with Warren in his cooking business, Young's Southern Kitchen. Most times, "Chick" cooked the sides, while Warren did the meats. Also, at the Coles family gatherings, the family would always ask her to make her pasta salad.

Cherokee leaves to cherish her precious memories: her mother, Debra Coles; her life partner, Warren Young; her children, Zhionna, Kyara, and Triston Lofton, Maliyah, Mariyah, Warren, Joseph Young, Zhiare Johnson and Trent Savage; her granddaughter, Kyana Lofton; her brothers, Larry and Ernest Coles; and her sisters, Davena Harris, Shania Ammons, Kiara Shine, Jacklyn Lawson, and Casey Gillis; her father-in-law, Joseph Young; her uncle, Arthur Coles and Thomas Harris (who considered her his first born); her aunts, Tammy Wilson (who was more than an aunt), Nancy Coles, Roxanne Smith, Pam Wilson, Kim Coles and Sherri Harris; and a host of cousins, other relatives, as well as an unlimited list of friends. Cherokee was preceded in death by her daughter and son, Kyana Lofton and Marquez Coles; her father, John Wilson; her brothers, Clayborn (CJ), Terry, and Peter Coles; her mother-in-law, Wanda Young; and both her maternal and paternal grandparents.

A Celebration of Cherokee's Life will be held at Suncrest United Methodist Church, located at 479 Van Voorhis Rd, Morgantown, WV 26505, on Saturday, November 15, 2025, with viewing from 10 am until the time of the service at 11:30 am, with Pastor Jeremy Thomas officiating. Immediately following the service, interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Maidsville. Repast at Westover VFW 3 pm-7:30 pm.
