Cheryl Abernathy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Winegeart Funeral Home on Oct. 27, 2024.
Cheryl Ann Abernathy, 56 years old, of Pampa, Texas, passed away Monday night, October 21, 2024, in Pampa. She was born in Greenville, South Carolina to Clement Grieco, Jr and Jacklyn Martin.
Growing up in California, she attended schools there and participated on the flag team while at Norda Vista High. Throughout her career path, Cheryl has a very eclectic work history ranging from volunteering at HeadStart, Cyrus BBQ, Albertson's, JoAnne's Fabric, City of Skellytown, Wal-Mart, The Caravan, Boondock's, Hoagies, as a housekeeper and recently began volunteering at P.A.W.S. Nothing was beneath her nor too far from her grasp when it came to employment, she was a hard worker and proved it time and time again.
Preferring to be outdoors, Cheryl enjoyed camping and fishing, gardening, going on walks and decorating the Skellytown Park for special occasions – most of which without shoes on! She despised shoes and hated for her feet to be smothered. Many family and friends have rocks that she painted while a few are fortunate enough to cherish oil paintings she did mostly of farmhouse scenes.
Cheryl lived a complicated life; therefore, it was reflected in her precarious personality. She was extremely loving and wouldn't hesitate to go above and beyond to give anything to anyone in need, yet her free spirit was quirky, sometimes crazy, and relatively obnoxious. Her presence was a beacon in the room and her mouth knew no filter at all! Cheryl thought she could sing and loved doing so – the problem was that she could not sing and when told so, she didn't care, she sang anyway. She never missed an opportunity to dish out orneriness to her friends and family and no one could ever guess what bazaar trouble she was stirring up. Her impulsive attitude, crazy tendencies and her ability to love unconditionally will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Tim Young.
Those remaining to celebrate her life are her mother, Jacklyn Martin of Pampa; three children, Charles Abernathy and wife Rosa, Tabitha Abernathy and Dija Abernathy all of Skellytown; former spouse, Thomas Abernathy of Clarendon; a brother, Clement Grieco and wife Melani of Yucaipa, CA; sisters, Trina Younger of Skellytown, Carolyn Griffin and husband Thomas of Marietta, GA, Laura Provost of Alachua, FL; five grandchildren, Gabriel Abernathy, Jason Abernathy, Jacob Walden, Garrett Walden, Emma Walden; nieces, Brianna, Cassandra; nephew, Andrew and her Homie, Josie Maddox of Pampa.
For anyone desiring to make a donation in honor of Cheryl, the family suggests they be made to Pampa Animal Welfare Shelter (P.A.W.S.), PO Box 2095, Pampa, TX 79066-2095.
No Celebration of Life Memorial services are scheduled, however, the family plans to have a private gathering in her honor. The family has entrusted the cremation care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.
