Jonathan Cox Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Winegeart Funeral Home on Mar. 8, 2026.
Jonathan Michael Cox, 31 years old, a lifelong resident of Pampa, Texas, passed from this life on Friday, March 6, 2026, at his home. He was born the youngest of three children and the only son to Mike and Sherry Cox on September 24, 1994, in Pampa.

A graduate of Pampa High School Class of 2013, Jonathan then attended Amarillo College where he attained his associate's degree in Instrumental Technology. Of course, like most high school students, he had worked several part-time jobs, however, even before graduating from AC, Cabot recruited Jonathan offering him a position as an I & E Tech. He gladly accepted the position and eventually moved to maintenance supervisor and then his current job as a Safety Specialist. In his eleven years with Cabot, he found his niche on the Cabot Community Relations Committee where his top two favorite activities were delivering Meals on Wheels with his son Barrett and making Coke Floats for the Special Olympics.

While growing up, Jonathan loved basketball, both watching and playing. He had played all throughout his childhood and he also participated in golf as well as track, particularly the high and long jump. Jonathan was the type that no matter what he attempted, as long as he put his mind to it, he would excel and do amazingly well. Some of the other things he enjoyed spending time doing were tinkering with his old truck and simply admiring old cars, playing video games, practicing his aim at the firing range, taking Barrett Lee fishing and he was also a Harry Potter junky, but Jonathans greatest accomplishment and biggest joy in life was being a dad to Barrett Lee.

Jonathan's love language was most definitely shown through doing for others and the way he showed best was through his cooking. He could be found manning the grill or patiently hovering over his smoker producing a mouthwatering meal to share with everyone he loved and cherished. He was a hard worker and very funny – the life of the party for the most part – always happy and smiling, bringing everyone else up and putting smiles on faces; however, he was a bit hardheaded and could even be referred to as a rebel with a tough exterior, but once you broke through that outer shell, there was so much more underneath! His big infectious smile and ability to bring joy to a room will be so very missed by all who knew his true abilities.

He was greeted with arms wide open into eternal peace and rest by his loving mother, Sherry Cox; grandparents, Elna Mae and Raymond Cox and Kathleen and Ernest Berry; his Uncle Donnie Berry, Uncle Raymond Cox, Jr and his Aunt Melinda Cox.

He is survived and deeply cherished by his father, Mike Cox of Pampa; his only child, Barrett Lee Cox of Amarillo; two sisters, Michelle Shedd and husband Logan, Jennifer Petroski all of Pampa; an Uncle Ronnie Berry and wife Berkley of Frisco; his Aunt Karla Berry of Pampa; nieces and one nephew, Ashton Shedd, Christopher Shedd, Harper Shedd, Madison Petroski, Riley Berry and cousins, Brandon Cox, Raymond Cox III, Bryson Cox and Cameron Cox.

For those wishing to pay final respects, Jonathan will be available for viewing on Tuesday, March 10th from 2pm to 8pm and again Wednesday, March 11th from 9am to 8pm with family receiving guests from 6pm to 8pm at Winegeart Funeral Home in the Serenity Chapel.

Celebration of Life Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Briarwood Church with Pastor Jamisen Hancock officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family has entrusted the care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.

Should donations be preferred, the family kindly suggests they be made to Meals on Wheels, 302 E Foster Street, Pampa, TX 79065 or Special Olympics Texas, P.O. Box 47106, San Antonio, TX 78265 or online www.sotx.org in memory of Jonathan's love of these two organizations.
