O B I T U A R Y
Cheryl Eileen Pierson Blakeman was born February 2, 1948 in Arkansas, to the late Adrian and Mildred (Miller) Pierson. She spent the first years of her life in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, close to much of her extended family. Her parents moved the family to Bowling Green, Kentucky in 1956 when Cheryl was 10 years old.
Cheryl graduated from Bowling Green High School in 1966, where she was involved in choir and home economics. She went on to attend Western Kentucky University and earn a Bachelor's Degree in music education. As a junior in college, Cheryl met her future husband, Barry Blakeman, also a music major.
Cheryl and Barry were married on June 12, 1970, and celebrated 55 years of marriage this past June.
Cheryl was a talented musician and an excellent teacher. She taught piano lessons to many students over the years, running large studios of piano students in Sturgis, KY, Bowling Green KY, and finally in
Greensburg, KY. She worked for many years as a paralegal in the law office of Greensburg attorney, Bill Colvin. She served as church pianist at the Greensburg Church of the Nazarene.
In addition to her professional and church work, Cheryl had many other roles. She was a faithful and devoted wife, a gentle and loving mother, an incredibly doting Grammy, and a beloved daughter and sister. Her greatest joy was her family. A member of the Town and Country Homemakers group, she was known for her cooking, especially her baking, and anyone lucky enough to have a homemade pie made by Cheryl was surely spoiled for life. She had a heart for serving the vulnerable members of our community and spent many years as the coordinator of the Green County Food Pantry.
Jesus called to her heart on Easter Sunday in 1954, and Cheryl answered and was saved. She followed and loved her Lord Jesus for the rest of her days. Surrounded by her family, she went to her heavenly home on September 7, 2025, having lived for 77 years, 7 months, and 5 days.
Cheryl is survived by her husband Barry Blakeman of Greensburg Kentucky, her daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Kevin Durham of Campbellsville, Kentucky, her grandson Eli Durham and his fiancée Ella Cate Bishop of Johnson City, Tennessee, and her grandson Reece Durham of Campbellsville, Kentucky. She is also survived by her sister Charlotte Hicklin of Madisonville, Kentucky, her brother and sister-in-law Don and Valerie Pierson of Dresher, Pennsylvania, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bernie and Karen Blakeman of Bowling Green, Kentucky, along with many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
In addition to her parents, Adrian and Mildred Pierson, she was also preceded in death by her grandson Kelly Durham, her sister Linda Pierson, and her brother-in-law John Hicklin.
A service to celebrate Cheryl's life will be held Friday, September 12, 2025 at 3:00 P.M., Central Time at the Greensburg Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Trajan Smith and Pastor Doug Hopkins will officiate. Burial will follow in the Greasy Creek Cemetery.
