Cheryl L. Forney

Cheryl L. Forney went home to be with the Lord with her daughter, son, & family by her side. She was a loving mother to Lynn & JR, as well as a caring friend, neighbor, sister, aunt, & step-mother/grandmother. She was preceded in death by her mother & stepfather Evelyn & Ray Thompson, her father Wendell Shaffer, & her brother Rodney Shaffer. Cheryl is survived by daughter Lynn (Todd) Cook, son JR Dennis Forney, brother Bill (Brent) Shaffer, brother Larry Shaffer, sister-in-law Dee Shaffer, nieces/nephews, Step-daughter Denise Dudley, & step-grandkids/great grandkids. She was also referred to as "second mother" to both Lynn & JR's friends growing up.
Cheryl was born & raised in Canton and resided in North Canton her whole life. She graduated from McKinley High School with honors & began working at the Ohio Bell Telephone Company not long after, where she retired from AT&T after 30 years of service. She remained lifelong friends with her group of ladies from the phone company & they had countless get-togethers for the past 50+ years. She then worked at Lowe's for another 10 years in customer service, where she met many friends as well.
Decorating her home inside & out brought her much happiness, & she took so much pride in all the compliments on her beautiful landscaping, decorations & flowers. For many years she loved visiting Amish country, shopping for crafts & antiques. During the years raising her kids with Dennis SR, she enjoyed making family memories on vacations, camping trips, concerts, & countless other activities. Bringing her even more joy were her beloved kitties Willow & Waffles, who were constant loyal companions. She had her late puppies that she also loved so much--Gwen, Chessy, & Lauddie. Her home was where her heart was & she remained there up until the end of her life.
Friends, family, & neighbors are welcomed to a celebration of life for Cheryl on Friday, August 15th 5-8pm at Dogwood Park Indoor Shelter/West side, 241-7th St. NE in North Canton 44720.
