Wilson (Bill) H. Rownd, 95, of North Canton, Ohio, passed away on October 5, 2025. He was born in Canton on August 5, 1930 to the late Wilbur E. and Margaret (Hawkins) Rownd.
Bill was preceded in death by his first wife of 38 years, Joan (Mosser) Rownd who passed in 1989, parents, brothers: Harry Rownd and Robert Rownd.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Darlene (Slagle) Allen Rownd; Four daughters: Marie and family, Jeanette Rownd, Judy (Jake) Schlabach, and Linda (Alan) Rosenson, ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; Step-children Tamara (Greg) Morrow, Jeffrey (Laura) Allen, Kevin Allen; five step-grandchildren, and one step-great-grandchild.
Bill lived a full life. He graduated from McKinley High School in 1948. He attended Denison University for two years and then graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from MIT in 1953. At both Denison and MIT, he was a member of the cross-country track teams, Phi Delta Theta, and ROTC at MIT.
Upon graduation at MIT, he joined the US Army Corps of Engineers and was stationed at Army Headquarters in Orleans, France. In 1955, he was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant and returned to Canton to begin his future career. He assisted his father who owned General Asphalt and Paving as Manager of Construction and Vice President. He was Manager of Construction Services and Vice President of Engineering Science in Cleveland. He retired in 1999 at 69 as Vice President of the North Central Operations at Parson Corporation in Cleveland after 25 years of service. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in 8 states and served in several Professional Engineering Societies.
Bill volunteered as President of the former Heritage House Inc. in Canton where he served for 50 years. He was a former partner of the BranHaven Swim and Tennis Club. Member of the volunteer Thursday Crew and site manager for Habitat for Humanity. He was also very active in the Boy Scouts; earning the rank of Eagle Scout at 14 years of age. In later years, Bill was active in the Buckeye Council of BSA serving as the Adult Council Commissioner, Vice President of Properties, and a member of the Board of Trustees. Bill received the National Outstanding Eagle Scout (NOES) and Silver Beaver Awards for his dedication to the Boy Scouts.
Bill was a man of great faith and a life member of Christ Presbyterian Church. Over the years served as a Deacon, Elder, Trustee, Clerk of Session, taught Catechism classes and was Treasurer of the Presbytery.
Bill loved his family, an avid reader, was devoted to his career, and enjoyed being retired.
Calling hours will be Friday, October 10th from 5:00PM to 7:00 PM at Arnold Funeral Home located at 4817 Cleveland Avenue NW, Canton, OH 44709.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 11th at 1:00PM at Christ Presbyterian Church, 530 West Tuscarawas Street, Canton, OH 44702. Services will be officiated by Rev. Katie Rosenson (granddaughter) and Rev. Benjamin George. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.
A private burial will be held at North Lawn Cemetery where Bill will be laid to rest beside Joan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be sent to Christ Church for the Capital Fund of Camp Wakonda.
The family would like to thank the staff at Windsor Medical Center for their care, compassion, and encouragement for Bill the past six years and the staff of Crossroads Hospice for their care and support.
