Cheryl Marie Garner, 69, of
Moore, Oklahoma, passed away on January 24, 2025, in
Oklahoma City, OK, surrounded by her sister and close friends. Cheryl was born on November 24, 1955, in Oklahoma City to Hubert Dewayne Bean and Joyce Marie Griffith. Joyce remarried in 1961 and Cheryl gained a bonus father, Leon Lanphear, who helped to raise her.
Cheryl grew up in
Moore, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Moore High School in 1974. During her high school years, she worked as a candy striper, showcasing her early compassion and care for others. After graduation, Cheryl lived with her grandparents before renting a house right next door, where she enjoyed her independence and her first car-a Nova.
Cheryl briefly pursued nursing school, inspired by her desire to help others. However, her deeply empathetic nature made it difficult for her to cope with the loss of residents at the nursing home where she worked. She then found a different career path, working as a mail clerk for Continental Federal Savings and Loan before beginning a rewarding career at Tinker Air Force Base.
In church, Cheryl met the love of her life, Ray Garner. The couple married on May 23, 1985, and together they raised Ray's children. Ray affectionately called Cheryl his "Little Fawn". Cheryl retired from Tinker AFB around the time of Ray's passing in 2012.
Cheryl was a woman of many passions. She loved music and movies, and her talent for writing led her to compose many heartfelt poems. She was affectionately known as the "queen of QVC," always finding joy in the little things. Cheryl and Ray shared a love of fishing trips and OSU sporting events, along with spending time with her nieces and nephews.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Cheryl had a close relationship with God, loved scripture, and found strength in her beliefs. She especially cherished her time at the assisted living where she resided and started blooming like a flower. She was able to feel joy again after the loss of her husband.
Cheryl had a deep love for her nieces and nephews and enjoyed raising her beloved Yorkies. She was also a proud member of the ASPCA, reflecting her compassion for animals. Her favorite restaurant was Cattleman's in Oklahoma City, where she made countless memories.
Cheryl is survived by her brothers, Darrell (Susie) Bean, Darren (Sandy) Bean, and Glen (Heather) Lanphear; her sister who she shared a close and special bond with, Cherie Nunn; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert Dewayne Bean, Joyce Marie Lanphear (nee Griffith), and Leon Lanphear; maternal grandparents, Willis and Marie Griffith; and her loving husband of 27 years, Ray Garner.
A funeral service to honor Cheryl's life will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Moore Funeral and Cremation, with burial to follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
Cheryl will be remembered as a sentimental, loving, and faithful woman whose strength, compassion, and joy touched the lives of everyone she knew. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered.
