Cheryl "Cherie" Hensley

Cheryl Hensley, age 76, of New Port Richey, Florida, formerly of Rochester, New York, passed away October 20th, 2025, in New Port Richey, Florida. She was born on March 25, 1949, in Rochester, New York to Hamilton and Margaret Niccolls.

Cherie, as she preferred to be called, graduated from Brighton High School in 1967 and again from the State University of New York at Buffalo where she earned a degree as an Occupational Therapist in 1971. She then worked for many years as a certified therapist in Rochester, NY, Greenville, NC and Clearwater, FL. These were all remarkable accomplishments in that Cherie battled courageously with cerebral palsy all her life.

In Clearwater, she met her husband, Lonnie Hensley, a cable TV engineer who shared Cherie's battle with CP. Lonnie and Cherie lived first in Birmingham, Alabama and back in Florida where they eventually retired.

Cherie was a people person first and last. She loved to connect with people and to help people. Her last years were spent in a local rehab facility where she continued to share and give through knitting baby blankets for friends and staff and praying for others.

Cherie was predeceased by her parents, Hamilton and Margaret Niccolls and by her husband Lonnie Hensley. She is survived by her sister, Hollie Niccolls and by her cousins Ric and Kenn Thorpe.

The service for Cheryl Hensley with be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church of Seven Springs on Saturday, November 8 at 10:00 AM.
