Cheryl Tillery Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Springs Funeral Services - Platte on Jan. 2, 2026.
Cheryl Ann Tillery, age 70, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025. Born on September 17, 1955, in Columbus, Georgia, Cheryl's life was marked by creativity, compassion, and a deep appreciation for the beauty found in both people and the everyday world. She later made her home in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she spent many years building a life rooted in love, artistry, and service.

Cheryl was a devoted and loving mother to her son, Christopher Tillery, and was proud to welcome his wife, Maggie Nagengast, into the family. Her love for them was constant and sincere, and she took great pride in their lives and happiness.

A lifelong artist, Cheryl earned a Fine Arts degree from Columbus State University. Her artistic spirit was woven into all aspects of her life. She found joy in fine arts, woodworking, painting, sewing, and creating custom holiday and greeting cards that friends and family cherished. Her creativity was not just a talent, but a way she expressed care and connection.

Professionally, Cheryl worked at Kaiser Permanente as a Provider Relations representative for Southern Colorado. She was respected by colleagues and partners alike for her professionalism, reliability, and kind demeanor. Cheryl approached her work with the same care and integrity that defined every aspect of her life.

One of Cheryl's greatest passions was her love for animals, particularly dogs in need. Through Puppy Mill Dog Rescue, she chose to adopt older rescue dogs-often those overlooked by others-so they could spend their final years in a safe, warm, and loving home. This choice spoke volumes about Cheryl's character. She believed deeply in compassion, dignity, and giving comfort where it was most needed.

Cheryl will be remembered for her gentle nature, artistic soul, and the many quiet ways she made the world brighter-through her art, her kindness, and the lives she touched, both human and animal.

A funeral service will be held on January 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cheryl's memory to National Mill Dog Rescue.

Cheryl's legacy lives on through her art, her family, the lives she touched, and the dogs she loved so faithfully. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

I had the pleasure of working with Cheryl. I have never met a more beautiful person. Her passion, light and her integrity fueled everything she did for others. She always spoke of how proud she was to be Mama to Christopher. Cheryl and I shared a love of dogs and I admired hearing her stories of the ones she saved. Her beautiful soul on this earth will be missed but heaven has gained a beautiful angel among us...still.

Christopher and Maggie,
I am devastated by the news of your mom's passing. I know her from our Columbus College days and we have been in each other's life ever since. She has been a beautiful friend and an amazing supporter of me while dealing with my husband's Alzheimer's. I think it was November when we last corresponded so I am missing many details of her previous days.
Please reach out when you have a quiet moment to process all this. She loved you both dearly.

I was deeply saddened to hear about Cheryl´s passing. She was always such a sweet, kind, and genuinely helpful person, and I feel grateful to have worked alongside her. Cheryl had a way of making even the toughest days lighter, simply by being herself. I will always remember her warmth, her patience, kind conversations and the way she supported the people around her. She will be truly missed.

Jim Masciarelli, my husband and Cheryl's dear friend, took this picture of her at our home. She liked it so much that she used it in many of her communications. It reflects her external beauty, and she was just as beautiful on the inside.

Jim met Cheryl many years ago when he worked in south Colorado Springs, Fountain, Security-Widefield, as a commercial real estate broker. They became fast friends. One of their favorite pastimes was meeting at Panera Bread on a regular basis for breakfast, which lasted for hours. Mom and I met Cheryl at the cookie parties that Jim and I hosted at our home. Cheryl loved those parties. She loved those breakfast potatoes that Jim whipped up for all of the ladies at the parties, to go along with the champagne brunch, and ending with cookies for dessert.

Cheryl's heart was huge, especially for Christopher, and then Christopher and Maggie, her friends, and puppy mill rescue dogs. She sometimes had 4 dogs at the same time. Jim and I always said, "Uh oh," when she went to a puppy fair or the Fur Ball. Cheryl couldn't resist rescuing and adopting those puppy mill dogs without homes.

A true friend with compassion, kindness, heart, gentleness, and loyalty: that describes beautiful Cheryl. I am certain that Jim and Mom will meet up with her in Heaven. Rest peacefully, dear Cheryl.
