Chester "Chet" Cantrell, a cherished soul known for his loving and selfless nature, passed away on September 18, 2024, in Greenville, SC, at the age of 85. Born on March 12, 1939, in Marshall, NC, to Loretta Franklin Cantrell and Grady Cantrell, Chet was a beacon of kindness and thoughtfulness throughout his life.
Chet grew up surrounded by the love of his family, including his late siblings Dora Marie Hamilton, Geneva Williams, Hayward Cantrell, and Louie Cantrell. He was a beloved brother to Earnest Cantrell and his wife Cathy of Marietta, SC, and a cherished member of the extended family to Tyler Williams. He is also survived by his niece Theresa, his nephews Dale Greg, and Ken Lee, and many great and great great nieces and nephews.
Chet spent countless hours working on cars, attending races, and sharing his love for building and riding dune buggies. His hands were skilled, and his heart was always open to sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with others. Chet's love for the mountains was only surpassed by his love for his family.
Chet's presence was a gift to all who knew him. He was the embodiment of a loving very loving person, always putting others before himself. His thoughtful gestures and selfless acts of kindness never went unnoticed, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
As we bid farewell to Chet, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and the simple pleasures that he so greatly cherished. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were touched by his gentle soul.
Chet's life was a testament to the power of love and the impact one person can have on the lives of many. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever be a source of comfort and strength to those who loved him.
Chet's family would like to thank the care team at Reedy River Post Acute in Berea, SC, for taking great care of him. The family would also like to thank Via Hospice for the care they have given him.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 4th from 6-8 PM at Cremation Society of SC - Westville funerals.
