Chester L. Fisher, 88, of Vermilion, died Friday, May 26, 2023 at Keystone Pointe, LaGrange after a lengthy illness.
He was born February 7, 1935 in Washington County, PA and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 48 years moving from Lorain.
Chester was a veteran of the US Navy serving during the Korean War.
Chester worked for Nelson Stud Welding Inc as a Utility Man for 40 years, retiring in 1996.
He was a member of Amvets Post #22, Vermilion. He played in baseball and softball leagues and was the catcher for the Nelson Stud team. He enjoyed coaching his children's sports teams, dancing, gardening, camping and woodworking.
He is survived by his children, Gary L. (Sharon) Fisher of Vermilion, Pete (Pam) Fisher of Vermilion, Larry Fisher of Norwalk, Kathleen (James) Sheets of Vermilion and Robert A (Judy) Fisher of Lagrange; 12 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; brother, Charles (Georgia) Fisher of South Amherst; sister, Mary (Ron) Miller of Amherst and his companion since 2010, Delores Hofecker of Vermilion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Mae (nee McNeal) Fisher; and his parents, Chester and Iverna (nee Bebout) Fisher.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 2, 2023 from 11 a.m until the time of the funeral service at 12 noon at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. The Pastor Cooper will officiate.
