Chester H. Gordon Sr., 81 of Mt. Savage MD, went to be with the Lord and his loving wife, Carol Gordon of 50 years on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 surrounded by his family.
Chester was born in Mt. Savage on June 26, 1943 and was the son of the late Hayes R. Gordon Sr. and Margaret Ann (Powell) Gordon.
Chester was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Carol Ann (Robertson) Gordon and his mother-in-law who he loved dearly, Flossie Robertson, both of Mt. Savage MD; 5 sisters, Florence Lowery, Margaret Printy, Gertrude Porter, Mildred Imes and Evelyn Shilling-Gettys; 4 brothers, Hayes Gordon Jr, David Gordon, Wilbert Gordon and baby brother Gordon.
Chester served 13 years in the Army. He was stationed in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam.
After leaving the Army, he worked for the Local 453 Teamsters for 31 years as a construction worker and truck driver. His most favorite sites that he worked on were the Bloomington Dam and the Sideling Hill Cut on Rt 68.
Surviving are his 4 children, Larry Gordon and partner Dawn of Mt. Savage, Debbie (Gordon) Markley and husband Jim of Centerville, PA, Chester Gordon Jr of Mt. Savage, and Tina (Gordon) Guinn and husband Jimmy of Mt. Savage; special daughter-in-law, Candy Gordon who he loved dearly and was at his bedside during his time of need; 9 grandchildren, Felicia Gordon, Ashley Miller and husband Richard, Cheyenne Wilson and husband Patrick, Candice Markley, Kayla Schmoyer, Shawnee Gordon, Chayda Guinn and fiancé Chad, Kristin Guinn and fiancé Josh, Charity Walters; 11 great-grandchildren. Kyleah, Kaden, Kamora, Waylon, Landon, Kylie, Kyler, Layne, Owen, Emmett and Finley. Chester leaves behind his loving poodle Precious.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland, MD, on Saturday August 3, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will immediately follow beginning at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Steve Leydig.
In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated and then entombed with his wife at Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland, MD.
