Chester A. Pish, 100, beloved husband of Martha M. (Kuchinski) Pish, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2023.
Born in Newport, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania on April 29, 1923, Chester (Chet) was the only child of Albert J. and Lillian (Schwartz) Pish.
Chet and Martha met in high school and married at St. Philomena Church in East Lansdowne 81 years ago. In 2022, they were recognized as the longest married couple in Pennsylvania. Shortly after their wedding, Chester felt the need to serve his country and enlisted in the Navy. Despite newspaper articles that claimed his ship was lost at sea, Chester made it home safely from World War II and the Pish's settled in Pottstown. A mechanical engineer, Chester worked in a colliery before his role at former Firestone Tire and Rubber plant. After retirement, he never slowed down and continued to work part-time until the age of 90, serving as a bus driver for special needs students. He and Martha volunteered at Pottstown Hospital and were active in many organizations affiliated with St. Aloysius Church, including running Bingo for 23 years.
Chester was a joyful man who enjoyed fishing with his kids and grandkids, woodworking and gardening, even maintaining his own yard until very recently. He cherished time with his family and was always up for a polka or late-night game of canasta or 'hand and foot'.
Along with his wife, Chester is survived by his children: Albert F. Pish (Claire Ann), Christina E. Williams (Dr. John Williams) and Anita A. Scherer (Mark), seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 24th, 2023 from 10 a.m. till 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius R.C. Church, Pottstown. Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in the Church.
Inurnment will follow in St. Aloysius New Cemetery, Pottstown.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Aloysius Church, 223 Beech Street, Pottstown, Pennsylvania 19464 or the Pottstown Senior Center, 288 Moser Road #1, Pottstown, Pennsylvania 19464.
