Chip Brooks Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by St. John's Family Funeral Home & Crematory on Jan. 16, 2026.
Dan Winston "Chip" Brooks, beloved husband and father passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at the age of 72, into the arms of Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior, after experiencing a catastrophic respiratory event.

Chip was born in Anderson, SC on March 1, 1953. He attended Boles High School in Jacksonville, FL and graduated from the Citadel Military College in 1975 with a BS. He pursued graduate school at Auburn University.

When his children arrived, Chip wanted more financial stability for his family, so they moved to Spartanburg where he became a pharmaceutical rep for Hoechst. He spent 13 years selling, eventually becoming a Diabetes Specialist traveling nationally to educate physicians and trainee reps about the disease. Chip never liked corporate life and later became an entrepreneur in network marketing.

During Chip's time in Spartanburg he joined Operation Rescue, a Christian Pro-life organization. He eventually ran the largest chapter. It was a great source of pride for Chip.

Chip was an outstanding athlete and loved endurance sports. Numerous times he completed "Across Florida" a cycling race with his brother, Eric-cycling 170 miles in a day. He also completed several "Assault on Mt. Mitchell" events-a cycling climb of 11,100 feet and 102.7 miles. Eric and son, Craig accomplished this with Chip. Then Ann entered Chip's life in 2004 and introduced him to Triathlons. He and Ann completed several St. Anthony Olympic Level Triathlons. Imagine swimming a mile in open Tampa Bay, cycling 25 miles, then running 6 miles! Chips greatest achievement was completing a half Ironman-1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride and 13.1 mile run.

In 2015, Ann and Chip attended a sporting Clays shoot, the Seminole Cup. Ann foolishly asked Chip if he'd rather have the Kolar 12g gun vs a cruise to Alaska for their 10th anniversary. So began a wonderful 10 years of shooting, which Ann embraced as well.

Chip will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 20 years, Ann; his son, Craig (Jennifer) Brooks; daughter, Carrie Brooks and his brother, Eric Brooks.

Chip will be deeply missed for his humor and shooting prowess by dear Gun Club members and long time friends, and his Cairn Terrier, Rufus.

A celebration of life will be held in the near future.
