Chris Andersen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Seger Funeral Home, Inc. - Atkinson on Jan. 9, 2026.
Chris Andersen (born Christine Marie Skrdla) passed away, aged 64, from complications resulting from metastatic uterine cancer.

She was born the youngest of four children, with two sisters and one brother. Her father was a WWII veteran, and she grew up helping on the family ranch. Chris graduated from West Holt High School in 1979, having excelled in academics and sports.

In 1983, she married Kevin Andersen and began her decades-long double career of working as a Nursing Home CNA and a ranch wife. She worked like this for decades, right up until health problems got in the way.

In 1991, Kevin and Chris welcomed a son, Ethan. Chris operated on very little sleep most of the time, working in town, on the ranch with her husband, and raising their son. Ethan married a wonderful woman, Alecia, and in 2020 and 2022, Kevin and Chris helped them welcome two granddaughters: Alaina and Serena.

In June of 2024, Kevin passed away unexpectedly, separating her from her best friend of over four decades. In January of 2025, after increased health issues, Chris moved in with her son and his family. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters, watching the birds at the bird feeder, and seeing the progress of the garden. While deeply missing life on the ranch, she took pleasure in watching rodeos and her favorite movie, Hidalgo.

Chris maintained her spirit of endurance in the face of suffering, being very active up until the last week of her life. Anyone who knew Chris was blown away by her optimism and hopefulness. The glass was always half-full. Her life was one of sacrifice, reflecting the joyfulness that was rooted in her faith in Jesus Christ and His Church. She is now receiving the eternal reward of all those years of sacrifice.

Chris is survived by her son Ethan and his wife Alecia, granddaughters Alaina and Serena, of Grand Island; Brother John (Rhonda) Skrdla of Stuart; Sisters Shirley Musich of Detroit, MI, and Jeanne Cleary of Denver, CO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband Kevin, nephew Dustin Andersen, and brother-in-law Bill Cleary.
