Chris P. Christopher ObituaryChris Christopher February 27, 1942 – April 28, 2025 Long Branch, New Jersey.
Chris Paul Christopher, former stock broker, superette owner, and proud father and grandfather, died April 28. He was 83. A native of Newark, New Jersey, Chris was born on February 27, 1942, the oldest child of Paul and Sophie Christopher. He attended Marquette University and studied psychology, then enlisted in the Marines in 1962. He distinguished himself in the service by earning a Rifle Marksman Badge and a recommendation for
reenlistment. During a training exercise, a round fired in close proximity permanently damaged his hearing, which led to his honorable discharge in 1968. Chris then moved on to stocks, working as a floor trader at the New York Stock Exchange for the next five years. His trading savvy allowed him to build up enough savings to open his first superette, Christopher's Foodmart, in Heartland Village, Staten Island in 1975. Two more Christopher's Foodmarts followed, in Woodrow Plaza and Tottenville, Staten Island. Through Chris' hard work and perseverance, Christopher's Foodmarts were fixtures in their communities, and stayed in business for 40 years.
In 1983 Chris welcomed his first son Gregory, and his second son Paul in 1986. He married his wife Adriana in 2016. In his later years, Chris had the opportunity to work with his son Gregory at Freehold Dodge Subaru as their premiere valet. He brought his signature charm and work ethic to the position. Chris was always an outdoorsman, a gun enthusiast, and fisherman. He enjoyed hunting trips to South Dakota with friends. The owner of several boats throughout his lifetime, he enrolled in various blue marlin fishing tournaments, and planned open ocean expeditions with his sons. He was a lifelong National Football League fan who enjoyed seeing teams playing at elite levels. As for college football, there was no bigger fan of Virginia Tech and Auburn University. Gregory and Paul have happy memories of many New York baseball games shared with Chris, both Yankees and Mets. He lived a unique life, rich in experiences, and will be greatly missed.
Chris was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Sophie, and sister Carrie. He is survived by his son Gregory, daughter-in-law Kristin, and granddaughters Reese and Anna; his son Paul, daughter-in-law Kelly, and grandson Anthony; his wife Adriana and her son Michael; and his niece Trina and her family.
A wake and service will be held at Fiore-Buckley Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road in Oakhurst on Friday, May 9, 2025 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Donations may be made in his memory to the St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1033 West Park Avenue, Ocean Township, New Jersey 07712. For condolences please visit www.fiorefuneralhomes.com.
