Chris "Smoke" Lucero, 37, of Hale Center, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025, in Lubbock.
Chris was born on April 13, 1988, in Lubbock to Rafael Jr. and Elizabeth (Galvan) Lucero. A lifelong resident of Hale Center, he graduated from Hale Center High School in 2006 and married the love of his life, Erika Ruiz, on October 22, 2007, in Plainview.
Chris was known for his big heart and even bigger sense of humor. Always joking around and making people laugh, he had a way of lighting up every room he entered. His family meant everything to him-his children were his pride and joy, and he never missed a moment to support or celebrate them. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud brother, caring uncle, loving son, and a true friend to many.
Chris loved family gatherings, cooking, and especially barbequing. He found peace on the open road, and riding his Harley was his favorite form of "wind therapy." Chris was always there to lend a hand, and he leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and love.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gilberto T. Galvan and a brother-in-law, Michael Ray Ruiz, cousins, Veronica Ruiz and Gregorio Nathaniel "Nate" Mendieta IV and good friend, Chelsea Rodriquez.
Chris is survived by his beloved wife, Erika Lucero of Hale Center; his sons, Christopher Max Lucero and Ryder Jet Lucero, and daughter, Zaily Lucero, all of Hale Center; his parents, Rafael Jr. and Elizabeth Lucero of Hale Center; his grandmothers, Nellie Trevino and Maria Barnes, both of Hale Center; his grandparents, Max Sr. and Diane Lucero of Arizona; and his brothers, Nickolas Lucero, Timothy Lucero, and Max Lucero, all of Hale Center. He is also survived by 16 nieces, five nephews, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members who loved him dearly. Chris will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His spirit lives on in every laugh, every ride, and every cherished memory.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Church of the Valley, with Rev. Israel Flores officiating. Interment will follow at Hale Center Cemetery under the care of Ramage Funeral Directors. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 26, 2025, at Church of the Valley in Hale Center and continue all day, Tuesday, May 27, starting at 10:00 a.m., with an evening service at 6:00 p.m., also at Church of the Valley and will conclude on Wednesday, May 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
