Christine Abdo

Christine Abdo, age 75, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on October 8, 2023. She was born in Yonkers, NY to the late Anthony and Catherine (Williams) Vanderwerff. On September 20, 1969 in Yonkers, she married the love of her life, John Abdo, and they were happily married for 54 years. John survives at home.
Christine worked as a Teacher's Assistant for the Wappingers Central School District for 25 years before her retirement in 2019. Her favorite thing to do was spend time with her grandchildren. They were her everything and the unconditional love that she shared with them was so special. Christine had a beautiful spirit and her faith in the Lord was a huge part of her life. In the end, it was her comfort and strength and it was also her family's. She was not afraid!
In addition to her beloved husband John, Christine is survived by her children: Jennifer Abdo-Dileo (Christopher), Holley Abdo (Joseph Suarez), and Elizabeth Califano; her grandchildren: Jonah, John Robert, Charlotte, and Nicholas; her siblings: Tony Vanderwerff (Maryann), Kathleen Dechent, and Jimmy Vanderwerff. She was predeceased by her siblings Lynne Perzel and Patricia Walsh.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday October 15, 2023 from 2-5 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc. 895 Route 82 Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday October 16, 2023 at 10 am at St. Columba Church in Hopewell, followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery.
Donations may be made in Christine's memory to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in hopes to help others fight this horrible battle.
