Christine Elaine Klanderud was born on June 9, 1930, in Edgemont, S.D., to Nels and Etta (Benton) Ballard. She grew up in Wyoming and her family moved to Laurel when she was in 9th grade. Christine graduated from cosmetology school in Sioux City, Iowa. She married Henry Christopher Klanderud on August 8, 1948, in Maskell. They farmed on Brooky Bottom and Christine lived there for 74 years.
Christine was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. She was a skilled seamstress who sewed for church projects and for her family. She excelled in quilt making and created exquisite quilts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Christine enjoyed the challenges of being a farm woman and was quick in acquiring new skills. She learned carpentry and upholstery in order to do home improvement projects around her house and yard. She loved plants and had a large vegetable garden as well as many flower beds. She canned and froze much of the food her garden produced. She raised sheep and employed them to mow the weeds around the homestead.
Christine thoroughly enjoyed being a grandmother and was an active participant in the lives of her 5 grandchildren. She visited Colorado every year to spend time with her 3 grandchildren there. All of her grandchildren visited in the summer on the farm.
Christine is survived by four children: Gwendolyn Fuehring of Boulder, CO, David Klanderud of Wynot, NE, Kathy Klanderud of Lincoln, NE, Jayne (Dale) Bittner of Norfolk, NE. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Bethany Ristoff, Dawn Charles, Cale Stockwell, Lea Boldt and Tiffany Blum. She has 11 great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry, daughter Kristy, father Nels Ballard, mother Etta Sorensen, a sister Loretta Wohlman, a brother Jens Ballard and brother Nels Ballard.
