In Loving Memory of Christine Lauture aka "Matante Chris"
Christine, a cherished family unifier and beloved aunt, passed away on February 28, 2024, at the age of 85. Her departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew her.
She was born in Lavallee de Jacmel, Haiti to Dumond Laroche and Germaine Lauture on February 7, 1939. In her country she was a talented Seamstress and was known to sow clothes for the poor. She embarked on a remarkable journey of determination and resilience when in her forties, she made the courageous decision to migrate to the United States, seeking new opportunities and a brighter future. She was mostly self-taught in English except for lessons she received from a friend before her departure. She landed in Brookly, New York and lived in various suburbs like New City before eventually settling in Spring Valley, New York. There, she embraced her role as a gracious host, opening her heart and home to her family with boundless warmth and hospitality. Her legendary dinners and gatherings became cherished occasions, uniting loved ones in laughter and joy.
Above all, Christine will be remembered for her boundless love and devotion to her family. She was a devoted caregiver to her sisters Mirielle and Marguerite, who remained in Haiti. Through her tireless efforts and unwavering support, she facilitated their migration to the United States, reuniting her family and creating a brighter future for all.
Though she may no longer walk among us, Christine's legacy of love, resilience, and unity will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. She leaves behind a profound legacy of love and compassion that will endure for eternity.
Christine is survived by her sister Marguerite Cadet; nieces: Anne Marie Payen, Therese Ridore, Ginette Jean, Marie Ange Maxi and Dominique Cadet. Her nephews: Toni, Berthin, Larry Brousiquot and Gregory Cadet. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and gratitude of those whose lives she so profoundly touched.
