Christine Ellen Dean Sherman, age 82, of Dryden, NY, passed away on October 15, 2025 at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, NY, with family by her side. She was born in Philippi, West Virginia on March 20, 1943, the daughter of the late Okey Morgan Dean and Elsie Maude (Bonnell) Dean.
Christine was one of nine children. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Frances Dean Ball, Pauline Dean Neiss, Rachel Dean Lantz and Leona Mae Dean, as well as three brothers, Clinton Dean, Maynard Dean and Okey Morgan Dean Jr. She has survived by one sister, Virginia Dean Shanabarger of Philippi, West Virginia along with many cousins, nieces and nephews who loved her deeply, and will forever cherish her memory.
Christine, lovingly known as Hub, is also survived by her two cherished sons, Troy Sherman and Kenneth (Stacie) Sherman, two step grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two special friends- Bonnie Denniston and Inge Tibke.
Christine worked for many years at Smith Corona in Cortland, NY. She was also known as a caregiver; caring for not only her sons and family, but caring for neighbors, friends, farm animals, elderly and all her co-workers and the students at the Trumansburg school where she finally retired. She loved to garden, read, craft, knit and bake and you could always smell something amazing cooking in her kitchen. A devoted mother to her two sons, Troy and Ken, she found her greatest joy in them.
Christine will be remembered for the connections she nurtured with those she held close. Her family and loved ones will miss her presence, her conversations, and her caring nature. Though she is no longer with us, the memories she leaves behind will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She will be deeply missed.
In honor of Christine‘s wishes, there will be no services. The family requests that you make time for your loved ones now, as you could never get back those missed moments.
