Christine Jane Simmons

Christine Jane Simmons passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, at the age of 94.  She was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, and was the youngest of nine, to the late Floyd and Celia Simmons.  She migrated to Baltimore with her family as a teenager.

Chris dedicated 64 years of her life to serving others through her work as a receptionist for the Radiology Department at Johns Hopkins.  Her warm smile and gentle demeanor provided comfort not only to patients but also to her colleagues who were fortunate enough to share their days with her.  Chris was very proud of her job at Johns Hopkins and her colleagues were family to her. She formed many lifelong lasting relationships through her time there.

Chris was a very independent woman and a hard worker.  For many years, Chris also worked a second part-time job in the evenings as a transcriber at Franklin Square Hospital.

Throughout Chris’ life, she had many hobbies and interests that brought her joy including playing tennis, spending time with her family, gardening, painting, photography, camping, hiking, road trips, museums, collecting books, music and genealogy.

As an avid animal lover, she always had pets in her life whether it be a dog or a cat or both.  Sometimes she had several cats at once.  Most recently, she had a special affection for her beloved cat, Milkshake who brought her much joy and comfort during the last 4+ years of her life.

Going on road trips was another one of Chris' great passions, particularly to her cherished West Virginia, where she found solace in the serene landscapes of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah River.  She enjoyed spending time at the property she owned there for many years.

A genealogy enthusiast at heart, Chris not only traced her ancestry but also took joy in helping others discover their own family histories, sharing stories that connected generations.  Many of her road trips included libraries and cemeteries where she did family ancestry research.

Gardening was yet another pursuit that brought her joy, filling her days with the tranquility and beauty of nature.  This could be seen at her lovely home in East Baltimore.

Chris also enjoyed music and playing piano.  She could feel those songs in her heart and soul and it was obvious to see that in her joyful expressions as she sang along to her favorite hymns or when she sang along to Country Roads.

Her unwavering support and boundless love to her family, friends, co-workers and to all she encountered had a profound impact on their lives.  She continued to make friends and to be a blessing to others during her past five years in Assisted Living. She will be greatly missed by many.

In addition to her parents, Chris was preceded in death by her six brothers and two sisters.

Chris is survived by her loving nieces and nephew, Christina Myers, Bobby Gray (Maria), Patty Griffin (Ronnie) and their families.

A visitation will be held at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services, P.A., on May 16th, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM.  Interment to follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Baltimore.
