Christine Griffin Smiley, age 84, of Baxley passed away Saturday, February 1, 2025 at The Pavilion under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.
Mrs. Smiley was born on January 8, 1941 in Appling County to the late George Carroll Griffin and the late Mary Vertell Drawdy Griffin. She worked with Dr. Ronald Reagin as a Podiatrist Assistant, was a former manager at Ship-N-Shore and worked at Fulghum’s Drug Store in her earlier years. Mrs. Smiley was a member of Friendship Congregational Christian Church. She loved playing basketball and was devoted to her family. Mrs. Smiley was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Ivan Smiley, and a brother, James Richard Griffin.
Survivors include her son, Donnie Carroll (Krystal) Smiley of Baxley; daughter, Christa Smiley Kirksey (Wade); sisters, Ann (Truett) Crummey of Cochran, Retha (Mike) Hutto of Baxley, Mary (Tony) Herrington of Baxley, and Joyce (Landry) Tillman of Baxley; brother, Rev. David (Marcia) Griffin of Hazlehurst. Seven grandchildren, Lauren (James) Johnston, Cason Kirksey, Natalie Smiley, Rylan Smiley, Paisley Smiley, Garrison Coleman and Layton Coleman; and one great grandchild Ivan Johnston, and several nieces and nephews also survives.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 3, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Friendship Congregational Christian Church with Rev. David Griffin, Rev. Rick Brown, and Rev. Shaun Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Baxley Graveyard.
Active pallbearers will be Cason Kirksey, Rylan Smiley, Shane Crummey, Randall Griffin, K. C. Griffin, and Clint Herrington.
Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of the Pavillion, Hospice of South Georgia, and all family and friends in attendance.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 2, 2025 from 6PM until 8PM at Swain Funeral Home.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
