Christopher Raymond Atencio
Christopher Raymond Atencio, 54, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on May 23,2024.
Ray was born on November 5, 1969, in Durango, Colorado, to Paul Atencio Sr. and Judy Atencio. He graduated from Durango High School and attended Fort Lewis College for a year before serving in the Navy for four years. Ray was known for his humor, kindness, and deep love for his family. He cherished his children and was always proud of their accomplishments. Ray loved spending time with family in his hometown of Durango and brought joy to many people’s lives.
Ray is survived by his mother, Judy Atencio of Las Vegas, NV; his daughter, Lauren Ray Atencio of Colorado Springs, CO; his son, Nate Atencio of Phoenix, AZ; and his brothers, Gilbert and Heidi Martinez of Durango, CO, Paul and Nikki Atencio of Phoenix, AZ, and Mike and Julie Atencio of Martinsville, IN. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, as well as aunts and uncles. Ray was preceded in death by his father, Paul Atencio Sr., who passed away in 2005.
A celebration of Ray’s life will be held on June 29, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Columba Catholic Church, 1800 E 2nd Ave, Durango, CO 81301. Following the funeral service, a reception will be held at the St. Columba school gym, with a burial ceremony in between at Greenmount Cemetery. Ray requested to be celebrated in his death, and the family kindly asks guests to wear colors that represent celebration instead of black. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” - Matthew 5:4
