Christopher Stuart Barclay

Christopher Stuart Barclay, age 65, of Climax, North Carolina, passed away suddenly on Friday, April 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Chris made Climax his home. He spent more than thirty years in the trucking industry, where his larger-than-life personality earned him nicknames like "Baby Huey" and "Big Sexy." Each morning you'd find him in a collared polo shirt and cargo shorts, ready for the road. Each evening he'd settle into his favorite spot on the porch, with the love of his life by his side, listening to the sounds of nature.
A man of deep faith, Chris and his wife Sandra "Sandy" Hall Barclay built their family on the golden rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and on the promise found in his favorite saying: "God's got this!" Sandy and their three children were the center of his world: Christy Lyn Barclay of Climax Elizabeth "Liddy" Barclay Fox (Lee) of Liberty Matthew Thomas Barclay of Climax
His love for his grandchildren was nothing short of epic. As Pawpaw to Logan, Landon, and Layton Fox and to Jae'Dah and Jeremiah Barclay, he celebrated every milestone, reminded each one of their worth, and showered them with love and encouragement. Chris was the Rock that held his immediate and extended family together. He never met a stranger and welcomed all with open arms and an open heart.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Sandra "Sandy" Hall Barclay; his children Christy Lyn Barclay, Elizabeth "Liddy' Barclay Fox (Lee), and Matthew Thomas Barclay; his brothers Douglas MacAra Barclay and Harry Thomas French III (Roberta); his sisters Andrea "Andi" Barclay Mapes (Scott), Jeannie Barclay Yukitomo (Steven); and Lynn Barclay Brewer (Dickie); his grandchildren Logan, Landon, and Layton Fox, and Jae'Dah and Jeremiah Barclay; and by many nieces and nephews who will forever remember his humor and his kindness. He was preceded in death by his father, John MacDonald Barclay; his mother, Mary Barclay French; his stepfather Harry Thomas French Jr; his brothers Paul Macdonald Barclay Sr., Robert Douglas French, and Richard Arthur French; and his sister Deborah Tucker Pangle. In accordance with his wishes, a celebration of life will be held with family and close friends. Arrangements will be shared at a later time.
The family finds comfort in these words: "When tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far apart, for every time you think of me, I'm right there in your heart."
Chris Barclay was truly one of a kind. Though his absence leaves a vast hole in our lives, his spirit, humor, and unwavering love will live on in every heart he has touched.
