Christopher "Chris" Bertch
December 23, 1977 – December 24, 2024
Christopher Bertch, 47, of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away on Christmas Eve, just one day after celebrating his birthday. Born in Mesa, Arizona, Chris graduated from Saguaro High School in 1996, leaving behind a legacy as a standout athlete, an imaginative artist, and an all-around original soul.
Chris lived life on his own terms, unapologetically true to himself. His fierce individuality, combined with his unwavering loyalty as a son, brother, uncle, and friend, made him unforgettable to those lucky enough to know him.
During his youth, Chris excelled on the tennis court, helping lead his high school team to a state championship. In his 30s, his competitive drive turned to endurance sports, and he successfully completed several marathons-each a testament to his resilience and grit.
An exceptionally talented draftsman from an early age, Chris dreamed of designing the world around him. His passion for architecture expanded into a fascination with the forces that shape cities and their communities. This curiosity led him to earn both a Bachelor's (2001) and Master's Degree (2006) in Urban Planning from Arizona State University. Chris moved fluidly between the public and private sector, his work reflecting his commitment to creating spaces that balanced environmental responsibility and thoughtful design.
Chris is preceded in death by his beloved mother Ann (Turek) Bertch; and survived by his loving family, including his father, Jack Bertch; stepmother, Vicki Bates Bertch; sister, Katy Page; brother-in-law, Ryan Page; nephew, Jack Page; and niece, Juliette Page. He is also remembered fondly by his uncle and aunt, Robert and Lynn Turek, and cousins Ashley (Turek) Patel and BJ Turek and long-term girlfriend Diane Guettler.
Chris's unique spirit and passion for life will be deeply missed but forever cherished by all who knew him.
