PITTSBURG – Christopher W. Cobb, age 59, of Pittsburg, NH, died on Friday evening, February 7, 2025, at home, surrounded by his loving family after an eight-year fierce battle against melanoma.
Chris was born on December 15, 1965 in Manchester, CT, to James R. and Ann T. (Thompson) Cobb. He grew up on the family farm in Columbia, CT, milking cows, haying and tending animals and livestock. He attended Windham Technical High School and completed their Electrical Program, and played football, graduating in 1984.
He built houses with his father (Cobb Construction), including many for family members. In June,1988 Chris started working at then Northeast Utilities working in the underground of Hartford, CT. He stayed with the company for 37 years, working in Distribution and also as a Troubleshooter, in East Hampton. He moved to the high lines in the Transmission Department and worked in his final years in the Lancaster/Colebrook territory with Eversource as a Supervisor of Electric Operations. Chris travelled all over the country in times of crisis after hurricanes and natural disasters and made friends wherever he went, taking every day in stride with humor and leadership at his job.
Chris was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting from a young age continuing through this fall, deer hunting with his brother, nephews and many friends. The highlight of his hunting was going to Colorado with his late dear friend Bob, bagging an elk, checking off a bucket list item.
His love of natural resources and farming made Pittsburg a perfect choice for a move to the Great North Woods in 2017. Fly fishing was a new hobby "to learn patience." Snowmobiling on white ribbons was a source of joy, especially because the times were shared with many family members and friends. He also had a love for beautiful places like Table Rock, Magalloway Mountain, Artists Bluff, 4th Connecticut Lake and Glen Ellis Falls.
Chris loved horses from a young age; he drove teams of Shire draft horses, owning them, breeding them and showing them in fairs and parades, sharing them with his family and community. He would go on to love American Saddlebred show horses and horse shows later in his life, he just didn't know it at the time. He met the love of his life Dorothy Riley in 2003 at the Villa Stables Christmas party on a blind date. Then horse shows became a full-time love affair for him alongside Dorothy. He was dedicated to the travel and support of competitions, enjoying horse shows hand in hand. Together they travelled all over the country including owning horses that received ribbons and awards at the prestigious KY State Fair World's Championship Horse Show, the Devon Horse Show. Eastern States Exposition and many more. Chris also showed American Saddlebreds to ribbons in the pleasure driving divisions.
Chris owned Millstream Hunting Preserve, raised his own German Shorthaired pointer hunting dogs and pheasants, coached his twin daughters' tee ball team, and was a member of the Pittsburg Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club, the Great North Woods ATV Club and served on the Agriculture Committee for the Town of Columbia, CT. The Cobblestone Farm stand sold corn and farm raised produce enjoyed by many in the neighborhood.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Dorothy (Cassidy) Cobb, his mother Ann Cobb of Columbia, CT, three daughters, Christina Cobb from Pittsburg, Alexandra Jimenez and Amanda Anderson of Florida, two step-sons Scott (Nicole) Riley of Columbia, CT, and Craig (Shanna) Riley of Lyme, CT, and and a brother James (Peggy Cobb) of Columbia, CT, a sister Joanne (Robert) Vanasse of Boyds MD, and nine grandchildren; Aidan, Cody, Collin, Alayna, Addison, Aaryn, Jameson, Nathaniel, and Colin, and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his father, James R. Cobb.
Memorial calling hours will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025, from 2 pm to 5 pm at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook, NH. A memorial service will be held at a future date at the Columbia Congregational Church in Columbia, CT. Interment will be at a later date in the West Street Cemetery in Columbia, CT, of which notice will be given.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Chris Cobb may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Av., Boston, MA 02215; or the Pittsburg Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club, 17 Dickson Lane, Pittsburg, NH 03592.
