Christopher Scott Dunning Sr., known affectionately as Chris to his family and friends, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, at the age of 63, in Dover, Delaware. Born on December 28, 1961, in Wilmington, Delaware, Chris was a man of integrity, warmth, and dedication, whose presence brought joy and comfort to all who knew him.
Chris was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Maggie, for 38 years. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories. He was a proud father to his children, Rob and his wife Niki, Chris Jr. (Abby), Pamela, Angelina, and Maria. His role as a grandfather to Gabriella, Tristyn, Emma, Lucas, Christopher Hayden, and Sophia was one he cherished with all his heart, embracing every moment with them.
The Dunning family circle included his caring siblings, Carol and Richard. Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Dunning Sr. and Nancy Eskridge Dunning, and his brother Bobby. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and togetherness that will be treasured forever.
A graduate of Smyrna High School's class of 1980 and Votec Hodgson Trade School, Chris was a skilled sheet metal mechanic in the HVACR industry. His exemplary work ethic and commitment to his craft earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. Chris was known for his readiness to lend a hand, his wisdom, and his mentorship to many in his field.
An avid outdoorsman, Chris found solace and joy in nature. Whether he was fishing, hunting, or working on cars, he was in his element. His passion for the outdoors was more than a hobby; it was a way for him to connect with the world around him and with those he taught and shared these experiences with.
Chris's departure leaves an unfillable void in the lives of those who loved him. However, his spirit, teachings, and the countless memories he created will continue to bring comfort and smiles to his family and friends. His was a life well-lived, full of purpose, love, and the simple pleasures that make life worth living.
As the sun sets on Chris's journey, we celebrate a life that was truly a beacon of light and warmth. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, the stories they share, and the impact he had on everyone he met. Rest in peace, Christopher Scott Dunning Sr., until we meet again.
A viewing will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025 from 5 to 6 PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 6 PM.
