One of the most influential leaders that I have had the opportunity to share time and space with I remember getting ready to get our of the navy and he and CS1 Dozier at the time was justt as adamant about me staying in as II was about getting out. I was in the galley completing the 1090 and I get a summons to the S-2 office. I walk in and Chief Jones and CS1Dozier at the time was sitting at their desks smiling and the office phone receiver was on the desk. Chief Jones says "you have a phone call". I thought to myself who is this calling me. I proceeded to pick up the phone and it was my Grandmother! My mother had passed and I had siblings that she was raising so I was going to get out, help my Grandmother, get my GI Bill and go back to school. True story! I thought to myself "how did they get her number" because I hadn't given it to them. Chief Jones had Cs1 Dozier call the admin office to get YN 1 Williams involved by attaining my next of kin information and they called her to inform her of my plans and needless to say after she recited expletive phrases it was evident that she agreed with their perspective. This moment and act not only changed the trajectory of my naval career but the trajectory of my life. I had a great run on board the USS Monterey because he cared enough to nurture my potential and help me create a good future for myself and now for my family. This is just one of many ways he played a part in my life. I will always remember this act of leadership and use it as an example as I strive to make a difference in other people lives.
