Christopher (Topher) Kammerer
1971 - 2024
On August 19, 2024, Christopher Kammerer passed away peacefully at his home in Las Vegas, NV after a long battle with cancer.
Topher was born in Billings, Montana to Gary Kammerer and Susan Nelson.
He lived in several locations throughout his life primarily across the Western US including Ohio, Nebraska, Colorado, California and Nevada. He completed a degree in Photo Journalism from the University of Nebraska (Lincoln) and a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado (Boulder).
Topher loved to travel throughout the West, often taking the road less traveled instead of the highways to experience the communities along his route. He gravitated toward the Rocky Mountains for many of his travels while also enjoying every opportunity to experience the California coastline. All who interacted with Topher knew of his love for football, especially the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Denver Broncos football programs. As an avid dog lover, Topher also enjoyed raising and training the family dogs.
Topher is survived by his wife, Jennifer Kammerer; his mother, Susan Nelson; his sisters, Andrea (Brad) Smith and Holly Kammerer; and many more loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, Gary Kammerer.
Topher wished to be cremated and have his ashes spread in locations that were important to him throughout his life.
During his cancer journey, the team in Las Vegas at Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada provided great support and care that centered on Topher's quality of life during the years of chemotherapy and surgeries. He received additional insights from the team at the Scottsdale Mayo Clinic that gave him assurance and peace with his cancer journey.
In lieu of flowers, we welcome you to contribute to a memorial for Topher at the Mayo Clinic so that this organization can continue their efforts against the many forms of cancer impacting so many lives.

I knew Topher when he was Chris....babysat and lived with the Kammerer´s when he was a little over 2 years old. He could not say my name correctly (Marilynn). It came out sounding like MareBear. A lot of my family call me this to this very day....especially the little great nieces and nephews. In the fall of `74 I came home from my college classes for lunch and Chris was not eating with us....he was in his bedroom thinking about his "actions" according to Gary and Susan. I was told to go look....he had thrown a couple of ripe tomatoes on the wall...why you might ask? He wanted to see what it would look like and he was serious.....could hardly hold in my laughter....along with Susan and Gary. Chris was a typical little boy...playing in the dirt and thinking nothing of it until one weekend I took the Kammerer kids home with me to my parents house and we visited a friends milking farm. Eyes were so huge when they saw the cows being milked....and of course my friends husband had to share a couple of fresh squirts of milk from a cow with a cat or two AND Chris. OMG...he was so upset that his clothes got milk on them along with a little bit of milk on his face. I can still remember his face!

My thoughts and prayers to Topher´s entire family. The almost two years that I spent babysitting and then living with the Kammerer´s affected my life in such a positive way. Far away hugs, thoughts, and prayers to all.
