Albert Joseph Kammerer, 94, of Amarillo, passed away on November 24, 2025, in Amarillo, Texas.

A private graveside service will be at Llano Cemetery. Deacon Blaine Westlake of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church will officiate.

Albert was born on October 20, 1931, in Jefferson City, Missouri, to Albert Joseph Kammerer Sr. and Grace Bell Carter Kammerer. Shortly after graduating high school, Albert enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving from 1951 to 1954. A Korean War veteran, he served on the front lines and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two stars, the National Defense Service Ribbon, and the United Nations Service Ribbon.

In 1956, Albert’s life changed forever when he met the beautiful Mary Ann Steffek on a blind date. The two were married on August 31, 1957, in Bellaire, Texas. Together they built a loving family that would grow to include two children, Denise and Joe.

From a young age, Albert loved the great outdoors—especially fishing. He cherished time on the water and taught his children to water ski as soon as they were able. He enjoyed hunting deer, pheasant, turkey, and geese, and he passed on the values of sportsmanship along with the skills to process and prepare fish, birds, and wild game.

Hardworking, disciplined, and devoted, Albert was both a steadfast provider and, as Mary Ann fondly recalls, “the most handsome man in the world.” Though firm, he was deeply loving and an example his children admire to this day.

Albert’s love of nature eventually extended to landscaping, and he became known for having the most immaculate yard on the block.

In 1973, the family moved from the Galveston area to Amarillo, a place that quickly became “home.” They were longtime members of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.

Throughout his life, Albert held several positions, but he spent the majority of his career as a financial representative in the automotive industry. As grandchildren entered his life, he embraced the role of grandfather wholeheartedly, cherishing every moment spent with each of them.

Albert will be remembered for his courage, his strong work ethic, his love of family, and his boundless appreciation for the outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Obie Allee.

Albert is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Mary Ann; his daughter, Denise Carthel and her husband Steve of Amarillo; his son, Joe Kammerer and his wife Teri of Hempstead; his grandchildren, Abbey Ehle and her husband Justin of Amarillo, Austin Carthel of McLean, Amy Miller and her husband Michael of Dallas; Chance Kammerer, wife Taylor, of Magnolia, and Morgan Glueck, husband Jordan, of Lockhart, and Kade Kammerer of Hempstead; and his great grandchildren, Daniel, Hannah and Noah Ehle, Peter, Caleb and Addy Jo Miller, Wyatt Kammerer, and Kirtley Glueck.
