Chris Mortensen (Christopher Travis Mortensen) passed away unexpectedly on the morning of February 20, 2025 in West Valley City, Utah. Chris died peacefully in his sleep of natural causes. Chris left us way too soon into his loving Heavenly Father's arms at 53 years young.
Chris was born on August 28, 1971 in Sat Lake City, UT to parents Bruce R Mortensen and Regina "Gina" Kip. He graduated from Kearns High School in West Valley City, UT. Chris was a very talented artist, painter and wood carver having done cherished commissioned works for many people. His specialty was drawing dogs as he loved animals and especially dogs. Chris was also a very talented bowler, bowling in various leagues and having recently just bowled a "300" game.
Everyone who knew Chris will remember him for his overwhelming compassion and empathy for others. Chris was very simple and always put others first in his life and would do absolutely anything for anyone. His door was always open and he welcomed anyone and everyone with an open heart, listening ear and desire to help. Chris exemplified Christ-like attributes and behavior in everything he said and did. Chris never turned away anyone (including a stray animal) in need. He had unconditional love for everyone.
Chris was proceeded in death by his father, Bruce Mortensen and his beloved dog "Gumpy" who was waiting for him on the other side. Chris is survived by his mother Gina Mitchell, step father Glen Mitchell, brother Shane Mortensen, half-sister Ashley Mortensen, several step-siblings and his sweet dog, "Fred", who is now in his mother's care.
Funeral services for Chris will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025 at Premier Funeral Services Mortuary, 67 E 8000 S, Midvale, UT. There will be a viewing at 11:00 AM followed by the funeral service at 12:00. Chris will be laid to rest after the funeral at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 E 4580 S in Salt Lake City, UT. For those unable to attend the services in person, a Zoom broadcast has been made available: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86706801788 Meeting ID: 867 0680 1788 The family requests that donations be made to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary as that is what Chris would have wanted, bestfriends.org.
The evening before Chris' passing, he said to his family over dinner, "The only king I will ever bow to is my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."

My Dearest Friend,
I can not tell you how many pieces my heart shattered into when I found out you had left this world for bigger and better things. I am so thankful I got to see you right before I went out of town in the middle of February. I wish I would have gone over earlier in the day and spent more time with you. You are constantly crossing my mind. I know you're at peace and happy. But knowing that doesn't make life here without you. I will always be thankful for the time I had with you and Mr. Fred. I love you and miss you!

How fortunate it was we got to have lunch together. And I will always remember that last hug. Watch over your mom and say hi to Grumpy!

Dear Chris, it has been my pleasure to know and have you in my life. We have bowled together and had a lot of fun and laughter. You have come to my house and cleaned windows and screens and have done a wonderful job. I was so sad to hear of your passing. I know you will be together with many family and friends as you return to heaven. Love VaLora
