SIDNEY-Christopher "OG" O'Grady, 42, passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on January 28, 2025. He was born on August 17, 1982, in Meriden, Connecticut, a son of Maureen (Stevens) O'Grady St. Laurent and Michael O'Grady.
Chris grew up in Connecticut and graduated from Lyman Hall High School in Wallingford in the class of 2000. Following high school, he attended Thomas College, pursuing an education in sports management. He worked in sales for many years and was employed at B & B Custom Embroidery in Oakland. On March 17, 2006, he married the love of his life, Christina E. Barnes, and the two honeymooned in Ireland.
Chris, a huge sports fan, loved watching, playing, and coaching sports. For many years, the children in the Windsor community knew "Coach Chris" as he coached both school and recreation leagues in basketball. Chris was so excited to take his nephew to see Duke play Boston College recently and was constantly on the lookout for any sports memorabilia for the kids in his life. Chris could be found supporting the kids in his life on the court, on the field, or in the gym. Chris was part of the softball community in the Lewiston/Auburn/Augusta area and could often be found keeping score for the various teams.
Chris loved his nieces and nephews more than anything. He was so proud of his nephews, David and Chris Chubbuck, who decided to serve their country in the Marines. He enjoyed watching Zachery and Allan playing football against each other. He loved all the kids and was always trying to do silly things - like showing his version of a cartwheel when Axe performed theirs-or teasing Mia, Silas, and George. Brielle and Chris shared a special bond from the moment she was born, if he was around, she wasn't far behind. Chris loved cheering for Owen, claiming he was his "agent" and trying to find him the best team for his skills. Chris would encourage Ellie, show her how to stand when batting and encourage her to use her height in basketball. Every weekend, he would watch Easton play, whichever sports season it was. He loved kids, and though his babies were in Heaven, he showed the kids in his life how much they meant to him. Chris was very excited when Joshua finally warmed up to him and was very excited to meet his nephew, Anthony, in June. Chris enjoyed every minute he spent with his nieces and nephew in CT, Liliana, Poppy, and Oliver.
In addition, Chris pastored the people of Center Vassalboro Baptist Church for several years. During this time, Chris held many youth-related activities, including Vacation Bible School, which drew in many children from the community. Chris was currently a devoted member of the Central Church in China, where he was active in the children's ministry alongside his wife, Christina. Chris will be remembered as a loving and caring man who mentored many children. He had a unique way of talking with and to kids. Everyone who met Chris knew he loved kids and wanted to help guide them.
He was predeceased by his father, Michael O'Grady, his two angel babies, who were too precious for this world, and grandparents, Barbara and Lindsey Spaltro.
Christopher is lovingly survived by his wife, Christina E.B. O'Grady; his mother, Maureen O'Grady St. Laurent and her husband Blair; his siblings, Matthew O'Grady and his wife, Maegan, and Tyler O'Grady; and many aunts and uncles. In addition, he was the beloved uncle, AKA "Blub Blub" to many nieces and nephews, and leaves behind his beloved dogs, Fynn, Deacon, and Bishop.
A memorial service to celebrate Chris' life will be held on Monday, February 3rd, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Central Church, 627 ME-Route 3, China, ME 04358. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Christopher's name may be made to: Central Church Children's Ministry, 20 Mission Ave.,
