Christopher Michael Pennes

Christopher Michael "Mugsy" Pennes, age 54, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2025 in San Francisco, California, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty and friendship. Born on September 28, 1970 in Poughkeepsie, NY, Christopher was a lifelong sports and music enthusiast whose infectious spirit touched everyone who knew him.
Christopher was predeceased by his parents-his father, Anthony R. Pennes, in 1981, and his mother, Kathryn T. Yozzo (Calenti), in 2022 and his paternal uncle, John "Uncle OB" O'Brien in 2018. He is survived by his younger brothers, Chezzy Calenti and Guy Calenti Jr. and their families; His maternal aunt, Irene Yozzo; His cousins, Jackie Schultz and Colin O'Brien; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his chosen family-his best friends, Thomas and Christopher Giudice-who were like brothers to him and with whom he shared countless memories.
Affectionately known as "Mugsy," Christopher was known for his unwavering loyalty, big heart, and unforgettable laugh. A proud graduate of Poughkeepsie High School, Class of 1991, he played football for the Poughkeepsie Pioneers, fueling a lifelong passion for the sport. He was a die-hard fan of Coach Bobby Bowden & Florida State University football and fulfilled a dream by moving to Tallahassee in the early 2000s to become a season ticket holder and immerse himself in Seminole pride.
Christopher spent many years after that living and working in New York City, surrounded by the energy and food he loved and as well as his best friends and their families. He was always available for conversations and spirited debates about music, movies, and the teams he loved most. In his last chapter, he relocated to California where he lived out his final days.
To know Christopher was to love him. His laughter could be heard across a room, and his resilience left an indelible mark on those lucky enough to call him family or friend. He will be deeply missed by all who had the honor and joy of knowing him. As sung by one of his favorite bands, Smashing Pumpkins, "Our lives are forever changed."
