CHRISTOPHER L. SCHNOES, 42, of
Cleghorn, Iowa, passed away surrounded by his dad, mom, and sister on Saturday, May 13, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in
Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jonathan Riggert will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023 from 4:00-7:30 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in
Cherokee, Iowa. Services will be livestreamed through the assistance of Fuller Digital Solutions on the Boothby Funeral Home website for those that cannot attend. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.
The family requests those coming to the service to dress casually in their favorite camouflage or Iowa Hawkeye attire.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are made to them for a scholarship fund they have set up for his children.
Chris was born on April 5, 1981 to Dean and Brenda (Rupp) Schnoes at
Sheldon, Iowa. He attended River Valley Schools up until his senior year, when the family moved to Emmetsburg. He graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1999. Chris earned his Associate of Arts degree from Iowa Lakes Community College and then attended South Dakota State University in
Brookings, South Dakota.
While in Emmetsburg and Brookings, he worked for Pizza Ranch. He then began employment at Walmart while in Brookings, working at different locations earning his way up into their management program. Chris also worked for Frito Lay in
Denison, Iowa and Cabela's in
St. Louis, Missouri. His favorite job though was Schnoes Outfitting and Carpentry Service, where he enjoyed working with his hands and building different projects. In 2017, upon a second cancer diagnosis, he stopped working having to focus on his health.
He was united in marriage to Kaela Dickson on November 9, 2013.
He enjoyed camping, golfing, and bowling. Chris was an avid hunter and fisherman, and member of Pheasants Forever. He enjoyed doing all these activities with his family, often moving around his treatment to maximize the time that he felt good so he could do the things he loved with the people that meant the most to him. Chris was a selfless man always worried more about others than himself. He loved to love and wanted to be loved. His favorite people call him dad and he cherished the time he was able to spend with his kids.
Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents, John A. and Kathryn E. Schnoes, and Terry D. Rupp.
He will lovingly be remembered by his parents, Dean and Brenda Schnoes of
Cleghorn, Iowa; sister, Jennifer and Cody Ohlendorf and their children, EmmaJean, Johnathan, and GracieMae of
Remsen, Iowa; grandmother, LaRae Rupp of
Cherokee, Iowa; daughter, Courtlyne Schnoes, and her mother, Shelby Kirby of
Rock Springs, Wyoming; son and twin daughters, Liam, Adalyne, and Brynn Schnoes, and his wife, Kaela Schnoes; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
