Christopher Placido Sgroi, affectionately known as Chris to his loved ones, passed away unexpectedly on June 15, 2025 at his home in Somers, New York. Born on November 28, 1984 in Manhattan, New York. Chris was known for his open heart and unwavering generosity throughout his 40 years of life.
Chris was the cherished son of Placido and Kathy (Toth) Sgroi, and a beloved brother to Nicole Zusi, husband Brian, and Jennifer Sgroi. His role as an uncle to Alessandra, Olivia, and his Godson Jack was one he embraced with unparalleled joy and devotion. Chris was deeply loved by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A proud graduate of Somers High School (2002), Chris furthered his education by earning a Bachelor's Degree from Mercy College, earning the distinguished honor of Summa Cum Laude. He was a member of Delta Mu Delta, Business Honors Society, Enactus Consultant. His professional life was marked by his dedication as a Facilities Manager, where he contributed significantly to the operations of the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, and Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Chris lived a life with an infectious passion, especially when it came to the things he loved. A devoted fan of the New York Knicks, the Jets and Formula 1 Racing, his excitement was contagious- whether he was cheering from the stands or passionately discussing the latest race. He had a deep love for travel, creating unforgettable memories with friends and family in his favorite places like Croatia and Monaco. But it was Lake Mahopac where Chris truly felt at peace- spending long, sun- soaked days boating, laughing with friends, and soaking in every moment of the summer sun.
To know Chris was to be loved by him. He was the heart and soul of many circles- kind, generous and endlessly loyal. He had this rare ability to make everyone feel seen, and his hugs could quiet any storm. Chris would give without hesitation, always the first to show up, lend a hand or offer the shirt off his back. His friendships were deep and lasting, and his devotion to the people he loved was the foundation of who he was.
Chris's legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched. His memory will be a guiding light, inspiring kindness and compassion in all who were fortunate enough to have known him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
