Christopher Steinmann

Christopher ‘Baron Vaughan‘ Steinmann, 33, of Cedar Hill, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2025.

Chris was born April 16, 1992, to Pat and Markus Steinmann in St. Louis, MO. Growing up, he loved music. As a young child (what his Grandpop would call a ‘nipper’), Chris’ favorite cassette was the soundtrack to the Sound of Music. He sang in the St. Louis Symphony Children’s Choir, played the sax and was a member of both the marching band and jazz band in high school. He was also very sociable; he was the first child in his kindergarten class to get to know the principal. And he was very smart; accepted into the Parkway gifted program in fourth grade and always asking questions like “how do they get all those TV channels into that one little cable?” His younger cousins in Maryland once pronounced that Chris was so smart “he could divide by zero.” And, while he occasionally challenged his parents, he usually took direction well.

After a Senior High parent/teacher conference:

Mom: “Chris, you really shouldn’t correct your teacher in class.”

Chris: “But he’s WRONG!”

After high school, Chris went to Southeast Missouri State (SEMO) where he met Paige Allison, the woman who would become his partner and fiancé. He was immediately smitten while Paige was not; but he took his time and just recently Chris and Paige celebrated fourteen years together. He transferred from SEMO to Ranken where he graduated in 2016 and then embarked on a journey in application development. For Chris, work was not about climbing the ladder, it was all about enabling the things and activities he enjoyed.

Chris enjoyed live-action roleplay and Dungeons & Dragons, where he played a colorful cast of improv characters among friends and strangers alike, crafted props and costumes for his performances, and organized narrative gameplay to ensure everyone around him was able to express themselves through their stories, characters, and play too. Chris also used this creative energy to volunteer at the local St. Louis Renaissance Faire as a friendly satyr who taught many kids about the animal friends around us.

At home, he enjoyed gaming, 3D-Printing, painting miniature models, and playing WoW and Magic the Gathering with friends. He regularly spent his evenings relaxing in bed with his cat, Potato, sitting directly on his chest, watching “Game Changers” or “Taskmaster” with Paige.

While his preference was more for the indoors than the outdoors, he enjoyed going on morning walks with Fenwick, helping care for newborn baby goats, helping hatch chicks, and herding up the chickens with Fenwick. And if you needed to meet the farrier to trim your horse’s hooves in the rain, he would bring you a hot pizza. In the rain. With your horse.

Chris is predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Bill Vaughan, his paternal grandparents Jutta and Herbert Steinmann, his younger brother Andrew and Fenwick, his furry, four-legged best buddy. Left to cherish his memory are his fiancé Paige Allison, his parents Markus and Pat Steinmann, his sister Hannah, his grandmother Mary Vaughan, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
