Christy Cooper, 53, passed away peacefully at her home after battling cancer for over 3 years on January 30th, 2026. She was surrounded by family before going home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Christy was born in Burlington, NC on December 25th, 1972 to Vickie and Teddy Brooks, and was married to Cadle Cooper, Jr. She graduated from Elon University in 1995 with a degree in Accounting. She worked in accounting at UNC Chapel Hill and was later promoted to an Accounting Tech at UNCG. Recently, she was working as a part time bookkeeper for two separate employers.
Her faith was an important aspect of her life. She enjoyed serving the Lord at Lighthouse Bible Church through singing in the choir, working in the nursery, the food bank, and overseeing a monthly women’s prayer meeting. She enjoyed cleaning the church for several years. She was an avid Carolina basketball fan earlier in life. She liked to cross-stitch, write devotions, pray for those in need, and most importantly, spend time with her beloved family.
During her cancer journey, as part of her testimony, she wrote regular devotions that were inspired by God in regards to the trials that she was currently facing at the time. She shared these out via text with family, friends, and church family. She used her cancer journey as a way to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to numerous medical staff, and everyone she came across. During her final days, she expressed her faith openly with medical staff of the Duke Bridge program and Duke Hospice. She started a card ministry at church to encourage others while dealing with their individual trials.
Christy is survived by her husband of over 28 years, Cadle Wilson Cooper Jr. and her four children: Reagan, Macy, Hadley, and Silas Cooper. In addition, she is survived by her parents, Teddy and Vickie Brooks; her brother, Travis Brooks and wife, Jamie and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her first unborn child, grandparents, Robert and Sadie Brooks, and by George (Ivey) and Beulah Chrismon.
The funeral service to celebrate Christy’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 4th, from 2:00PM at Lighthouse Bible Church at 1013 West Webb Ave. Burlington, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:45 PM.
A private family burial will follow the funeral at Bellemont Methodist Church, Burlington, NC.
The family wishes to express deep appreciation to family, church family, and friends that prayed for her, brought food, texted her, sent her cards and gifts during her cancer journey. Also, the staff of Duke’s Bridge program and Duke’s Hospice program.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lighthouse Bible Church, P O Box 690, Burlington, NC 27216, to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.
