James Moser Obituary

Visit the Rich & Thompson Funeral & Cremation Service - Burlington website to view the full obituary.
Mr. James Duncan "Jimmy" Moser, Jr., age 88, of Burlington, passed away on 03/10/2026, his birthday. Jimmy was the devoted husband of 65 years to Mary Brenda Wilson Moser, who survives him, and the son of the late James Duncan Moser and Nettie Mae Lockamy Moser.

Jimmy was a graduate of E.M. Holt School, attended Pfeiffer College, and earned his B.A. in Accounting from Elon College in 1961. After a brief start with a firm in Greensboro, he continued his professional career as a CPA and retired as a former senior partner of the current Gilliam Bell Moser LLP, CPAs of Burlington, NC.

In his active years, Jimmy served his country as a member of the North Carolina Air National Guard. Throughout his professional career, he also gave generously of his time and leadership on several local boards, including Community Federal Savings & Loan, Capital Bank, the Alamance Community College Foundation, the Elon College Board of Visitors, and the Alamance Country Club. He was recognized as a 54 year member of the Alamance Civitan Club and was also active in the Alamance Breakfast Rotary Club.

In his free time, Jimmy loved playing golf and tennis, gathering with friends in "The Luncheon Club," and enjoyed weekly dinners with "The Tennis Group." A true professional, he took great pride in his work and was always dressed in the finest from Currin & Hay, but after 5 o'clock, he happily traded his suit for dungarees, brogans, and time on his tractor or lawn mower. His greatest joy came from time spent with his immediate and extended family, especially the memories made together at Hyco Lake. As a lifelong fan, he seldom missed an athletic event or performance of his children or grandchildren, no matter his schedule.

Jimmy is survived by his son, James Bradley Moser (Melinda), and his daughter, Julie Moser Thomas; ten grandchildren: Wilson Douglas Hinson (Mattie), Emily H. Reavis (Dylan), James Griffin Hinson and their father, Gary Hinson (Tricia); Abby M. Overman (Travis), Kaley M. Evans (Bill), Ellis Moser (Mollie), Hannah Thomas, Ellen T. Sloop (Riley), Mary Grace Thomas, and Adelia Thomas; and nine great grandchildren: Finley, Salem, Wade, Hadley, Madelyn, Allie, William, Olivia, and Lane. He is also survived by his brother, Sammy Moser (Pat), along with his many remaining beloved extended family members.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his daughter, Jami Lewellyn Moser Hinson.

Jimmy's celebration of life will be held at 4 PM on Sunday, March 15 at Bellemont Methodist Church, 4039 Markwood Rd., Burlington, NC, followed by committal in church cemetery. The family will receive visitators prior to the service from 2:00-3:45, and a gathering "around the corner" following the committal at Jimmy's home nearby.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: The Alamance Community Foundation – Jami Moser Hinson Memorial Fund, PO Box 726, Burlington, NC 27216.
