Chrystal Dawn Brake was born one chilly morning on January 8, 1972 to Robert and Anita West. She went home to be with the Lord and those who loved her before on July 18, 2025. She is survived by both parents as well as her beloved husband Kim Brake Sr, whom she married October 19, 1991 and together shared countless adventures and memories. She is also survived by her son Isaiah (Alesia) Brake and grandson Porter Brake, as well as her daughter Amber (Yovany) Pino, and two grandsons Anselm and Jack Pino, all of whom adore her and will miss her greatly. She is also survived by two brothers, Vance (Amanda) West and Lucas West, and a host of other family who greatly mourn her loss.
Chrystal was a special one of a kind person. She loved all the music genres, especially the likes of Bob Seger, Jamey Johnson, and Sam Cooke. She knew that the best things took time, which is why she would take three full days to make homemade pastas and sauces for family dinners: Italian style. She was most at peace in her garden, and loved nothing more than to sit around and break home grown green beans with loved ones. Chrystal was an avid reader; she loved to read her Bible and a good mystery, and she had almost every Stephen King book ever written. She loved finding antiques because they reminded her of slow and simple living. She loved genealogy and was the keeper of the family flame, the teller of the story of those who came before us. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, because she got to celebrate the birth of the Lord and because family was gathered together (she loved a good game of Rook at the holidays). She made sure to make Christmas magical, making all the candy, singing all the songs, and was such a perfectionist at it that she would even make sure the images on the wrapping paper lined up perfectly so you couldn't tell where the paper started and finished. She was a strong woman in every way, and made sure to always protect those she loved. This caused her to be called Madea by some, a nickname she loved because it came from her favorite Tyler Perry movies (although her favorite movie of all was The Wizard of Oz). She loved nature, especially butterflies because they reminded her of her Granny Lorrie Moran. Chrystal had many adventures with her husband traveling, and always said she loved out West the most. Above all she loved Jesus and her greatest wish was to see souls saved. She knew nobody was perfect, but always strived to help anyone and show others the love of God. If anyone ever feels lonely or sad, she'd want you to know there's a seat and open loving arms at Mount Pleasant Fellowship just waiting for you. She was truly special and irreplaceable, and will be so missed by those that loved her most until we meet again in Glory.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 21, 2025, between 10 am – 2 pm at Mt. Pleasant Fellowship Church. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 21, 2025, at 2 pm at the Mt. Pleasant Fellowship Church. Burial will be in the Brake Cemetery.
