Nancy was raised in the rural community of Piney Woods outside the city of
Monticello, Kentucky. Nancy attended school through the 8th grade but later graduated from Wayne County Schools with a General Education Degree in 1977, while raising her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, singer, and minister. She was the sole supporter of most of her children for many years and never shied away from work, as she held numerous jobs throughout her life to provide for them. She worked as a punch press operator, head cook, beautician, custodian, nursing assistant, electrician's apprentice, truck driver, teacher's aide, and bus driver.
In 1979, Nancy graduated from Somerset Beauty College and was a licensed cosmetologist. Following that, she had her own beauty shop, "House of Styles" for several years. Years later, in 1990, she decided to be a truck driver and attended truck driving school, where she obtained her CDL license and started driving for JB Hunt. Following that job, Nancy took a position driving a school bus and worked as a teacher's aide at the Wayne County Schools, where she later retired. During the same time frame, Nancy graduated from the School of Ministry at World Harvest Inc. in 1993. She was ordained as a minister through The United Christian Church & Ministerial Association until 2009. She began preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ in 1993 and opened a church shortly after on North Main Street in Monticello. When she closed that church, she began evangelizing across the state of Kentucky with her daughter, Deborah. She also preached on occasion at the Gospel Barn, operated by her daughter, Maggie Anna, in the Missouri Hollow Community.
Nancy accepted Jesus as her Savior when she was about 7 or 8 years old. She had a firm faith in Jesus Christ and read her Bible daily as long as she could. She watched preaching on television when she couldn't attend church, and listened to gospel music on WLJC. She loved to sing old Southern gospel music from her songbook. She even sang on WLJC's TV station with her son, Danny, and granddaughter, Jessica. She also recorded two gospel albums. In recent years, Nancy attended Jesus Name Tabernacle in Monticello, where she was ordained again and preached on occasion as her abilities allowed. No matter where she went, Nancy always displayed a smiling face and showed the love of Jesus Christ, handing out tracts, singing gospel songs, offering prayers, and telling anyone who would listen, "Jesus loves you."
Nancy's life was not an easy one, as she suffered many heartaches and hardships. However, what kept her going was her faith, her love for Jesus, and her family. She has left a legacy of children and grandchildren who have all come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. She never knew a stranger and led many people to Christ through her work in ministry, singing, and witnessing throughout the years. She looked forward to the day that Jesus would call her home. She would say, "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord". She has laid up many treasures and is rejoicing in heaven with her family who have gone on, and is waiting for the day when she will be reunited with all of her children and grandchildren. Rejoice, for Jesus has welcomed her home!
"Well done, my good and faithful servant!" Matthew 25:23
